Winter wheels and tires for 2001 OBW
I have been looking around the board for a while, and have a few questions about wheels and winter tires.
First, am I correct in assumung that all 5 on 100 bolt patterns will fit a 2001 OBW? Are there any oem wheels that will not fit?
Next, I am trying to decide between two sets of tires. Blizzaks and Nokian. While I would prefer the Nokian (I have them for another car), tirerack does not sell them.
Here is the dilemma. Tirerack will sell a set of 15" steel wheels, Blizzak tires and wheel covers, shipped for about $522. If I want the Nokians, I have to get the wheels and covers from tirerack (or somewhere else, but tirerack appears to be the cheapest), buy the Nokian tires from someone else like etires.com, and then have them mounted. Because of the extra shipping, cost of the Nokians and the mounting, I estimate that the total extra cost for the Nokians will be about $200.
What would you do? Does anyone know of anywhere that will sell a set of Nokians mounted and balanced? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You will not be able to get a set of 15's to fit over the stock calipers. So I suggest that you get a set of WRX wheels or something and mount some winter tires on those and use those as winter wheels and use your Outback wheels for the summer, or vice versa. This only what I would do since WRX wheels are dime a dozen these days.

I am surprised that the 15" will not fit
Thanks for your response.
I am surprised that the 15" wheels will not fit. I called the parts department at the dealer and they were ready to sell me 15" steel wheels for the car. I do not doubt your knowledge of the car (it is certainly far more than I have of it), and I am more inclined to believe that you are right as compared with the dealer. Is is possible that the 15" wheels would fit on older outback wagons and that for the 2001 MY bigger calipers were used? Now that you mention it, I have seen someone selling 15" steel wheels from a '97 OBW because they will not fit on an 02 OBW.
So, I should just buy the 16" WRX wheels. Do you think I would be better off with 16" steel wheels?
If I go with the WRX I guess I will buy the Nokians since I will have to have the tires mounted anyway.
Thanks for your advice. You may have saved me from wasting some money.
