winter tires?

i dont know how you sti guys drive those potenza's in the snow but ur crazy and i guess so am i. I got a set of 04 sti bbs rims w/ potenza tires and man i think i bout lost a few lives. anyway i got the original 16 inch rim for the 02' wrx and am looking for the best snow tire that i can get. let me know what you have tried and what sizes. i might go 195 width if possible. after all thinner is better for snow.

Go to www.tirerack.com, type in your car data, or tire size(s) desired and select 'winter tires'. You'll get a wealth of data and have a good idea what general range of pricing you're looking at.

Are there any snow rated tires that are still good for handling when its dry too. 98% of my driving will never be in the snow probably just a few snowboarding trips a year so i dont wanna get a whole other set of wheels and tires if I can get some tires that will perform good on the street too as well as be snow rated.

Dunlop Winter Sport M3s best snow tire ive ever driven on. you can be pushing snow with the front bumper and you won't be spinning. they work good in dirt. i think its one of the only snow tires rated up to 120mph.

Nokian WR's. They wear like iron and work extremely well in the snow, for an all season tire. They will definitely be softer than some of your other all season options, but will work better in the snow...

Im considering the AVON TECH M550 all seasons or the ContiWinterContact TS810 for my 2004 STi in 225/45/17....but Im on a budget.

If money is no object, get the Nokian WR's or Dunlop M3's...they both get great reviews.

M3's are about $50/tire cheaper than the Nokian's...but won't last long in warm weather. It's all about what's important to you!

if 98% in non-snow ... then get a good summer tires and drive slowly and carefully for the other 2%.

I had Yokohoma Parada Spec II once for all season and survived very well. But, I live in downtown Chicago. They salt and plow the snow once it drops. So, I am more in Wet condition, rather than SNOW.

Terrible advice. All seasons, yes. Summers, no.

i am thinking of getting a cheap set of 16x6.5 black steelies for myself and throwing on a set of toyo proxes 4's in 215/55/16 or 205/55/16. they are all season tires and seem to wear pretty slowly in the warmer climate.
