Weight?

Weight?
I was really stupid when i bought my new rims. They are a little heavier than the stock 16's. I got 17's with a wider tire. Can't reacll the exact size but they are wider than the stock tires. I put both on a scale and the new rims with tires weigh about 4.5 pounds more than the stockers. The car does handle better. does anyone have any thoughts on this? I really want to know what you think. I know i should have checked the weight first but i was new and excited about new wheels. Also I am not a racer, just for street use. Next set will be Volk's. They are really sweet. Of course when i can afford them.
New tires are 225/45/17.

It' s no big deal really, because you don't track your car.
There is a rule of thumb about unsprung weight:
1 lb. rotating mass = 8lbs static weight
...so you have basically just gained 144 lbs which means you acclerate slower and come to a full stop later. Kind of like always riding with an extra pasenger.
If you really want to get geeky with rotational mass I suggest you check out:

and download 'My spreadsheet'. He has correct formulas for calculating the effects of unsprung weight on acceleration.

No real worries...you didn't add too much. Light tires like the Kumho MX's or T1-S might get some of that weight back for ya, on the next set...

I did notice a little difference in the acceleration. I have since put on a turbo back and am waiting on a cobb stage two. The turbo back helped a lot. The car does not seem to actually be any slower though. Stopping however has changed a little. I am thinking instaed of a full brake kit for now i will go with better pads better fluid and ss brake lines.
