Tire size for rims?

Ok, I picked out some 17 x 7 rims and Ive done some searching for a good tire size and what Ive come up with is 215/45/17

From what Ive read the 215 is what I want on a 7" wide rim and of cousre a 17" for rim diameter. My question is on the 45 size. I'd assume that this is the size to keep the original diameter of the stock tire so Speedo and mileage read correct. So is this the tire size I want?

BTW The wheels are MB Motor Sport 'Weapon' in the matte bronze w/Yokahama AVS ES100's. I think it looks good. And I have the ES100's on my stock rims now and like them.

Darren

After hunting through discount tires website, it seems like the only size that would work (available) is 215/50/ZR17. Is this good?

I assume that you are asking what size tire you should be using. If so, what car? Assuming its a WRX, 215/45 is recommended by Subaru, but most perple use 225/45 b/c its a little bit wider & closer to the original equipment tire's overall diameter. I have not heard of anyone using a 215/50, but I don't think you would run into any real problems. Your speedo will read slow & accelleration will be weaker, although in theory top speed should increase.

0k. Are 225's too wide for 7" rims? Should I go to 7.5 or 8's?

Luke : are those tire sizes just for the Impreza or do they also apply to the Legacy?

Pretty much, yeah. They are very similar to each other & Legs came with 185/70/14s to 215/45/17s.

Except for STis, Subaru uses 215/45R17 on world market imprezas, including the WRX. It's also the recommended alternate tire size for 17" wheels, it's in the owners manual. 225/45R17 is closer to stock diameter in terms of percentage error, but the error is to the large side, and it's illegal for manufacturers to make recomendations that result in your speedometer reading low. If your choice of tire isn't available in 215/45, then 225/45 is fine and vice versa. Just remember that you have to add speed with the wider tires, and subtract with the narrower ones.

I have a set of 18 x 7.5 ADR GT-Sport rims. What is the suggested tires size for those? 235/45R18?

it might be a good idea to figure out how far off your speedometer is with the stock setup
