Stock RE92 tread life
I know I remember reading this discussion before, but I have tried searching with no luck. I was curious how many miles other WRX drivers are getting out of their their stock RE92's. I just passed 23,000 miles, and both the rear tires are at the wear bars. I didn't realize this until I brought my car into the dealer and they wouldn't rotate the tires (the 22,500 service) because of it. I know I need to get new tires, but I was just curious how many miles others were getting out of the RE92's. Thanks!

My RE92s lasted about 9500 miles, but are about 2.5 yrs old. They didn't reach the tread bar yet, but the two in the front have edges that are going bald, and one of the rear ones was patched after a nail killed it.

How are you guys killing your tires so fast?
You know, I going at 39K miles right now. I rotate them every 5K. Im still using the stock tires on my MY02 WRX. So,
I've been running them for 2 years now.
It makes me wonder how the heck everyone is killing them so fast. My car is stock except for a brake kit. I use it for going back and forth to work. Don't track. Its my commuter car and sometimes go hard on corners.
My tread on these tires are just past the half life. Im guessing I can push these tires until 50K before they go bald.
The environment I drive in is the Bay Area. So I take highways and roads. Nothing bumpy rally like.
Unless your drifting like a madman or race, these tires last a long time. That is if the car is stock ^_^

That's quite a variance! I guess with a treadwear rating of 160 (and me not rotating them religiously) 23k is reasonable. Thanks everyone!

On my 98 and 99 Legacy GT's the tires were lasting approx 20,000 miles on each car. On my 2.5RS the stock tires are at 20,000 miles and I believe I can squeeze another 8,000 miles. I have a set of TOYO T-1's that lasted 15,000 and they are shot, but they were so very sticky and pick up anything on the road. The tires on the Legacy's did wear uneven but it was always 1 tire wearing a little more. The TOYO's were so sticky that it was fun hitting exit ramps in familiar surroundings going 55 on ramps posted for 25 or less and watching other cars trying the same.

Anybody who doesn't realize what complete garbage the RE-92's are LONG before they wear out deserves to buy them again....and again....

Mine have about 18k on them, and are definitely showing some wear. What's really odd about them is that the older they get, the more sensitive they are to tire pressure; I can genuinely tell the difference between having 30psi and 31psi in the front wheels, it makes a BIG difference in turn-in and rolling resistance. The tires really shouldn't change shape that easily with air pressure...

I'm not complaining too bad. I remember my factory sales sticker on the window saying they were only rated for 15,000 miles. I'm past that already.

Those tires will last forever. I have 23800 miles on my car and the tires got to the point where they are now but they refuse to get anymore bald. I honestly think I can go another 10k and still be fine.

35,000 miles on a EJ25/5MT... not bald, but pretty useless. Car started squeeling on turns.
They became REALLY NOISY as they got older. At about 30K miles, one developed a woom-woom-woom reapeating sound.
Dealer tried for a while to figure where in the hell the noise was coming from. Last thing to suspect were the tires. So they rotated the tires and notice that the noise moved with the bad tire. The tire was worn evenly but there was a piece of metal (1cm x 2cm) imbedded in the tread; pulled the debris out, but the noise remained. It wasn't leaking but the debris may have damaged the belts.
Replaced them with Yokohama AVS dB S2. These are not that much quieter than NEW RE92's. Hopefully, the Yokos won't become noisy as they wear like the RE92's.
