oem RE92 or Sumitomo HTR ZII for winter?

im currently running 225/45/17 sumitomo htr z2's. these are summer performance tires and aren't snow rated. Since winter is coming up and I want to goto Lake Tahoe to snowboard a few times, should I swap my stockies back on? (the re92's are M+S rated). or would i be fine with the sumi's?

It depends, do you want to be stopped at "the pass" and haveto put chains on, or not? Really, it all comes down to the driver. My dad could out wheel me in most snowdrifts with his RWD Astro van than me in my WRX. If you are confident with your summer tires, then run with those. I personally think the RE92's would be alittle safer, but even then the stockers are just 'alright' in the snow. The only downside I can see, as stated above, is having to put chains on during a snowy day because your tires don't have 'm+s' on the sidewalls.

yeah, if there is no snow rating on the sumitomos dont use em . . . just go back to the stockers. its alot safer

I say get better All Season M+S tires than the 92s but if you gotta go with them then at least they're better than running summer tires in the snow. <---there's a concept I am alluding to there.

Since there's no actual money involved in this decision, definitely swap the stock wheels back on to go above 3000 feet. Once it comes time to actually buy new tires I'm a big fan of one set of true snow tires for winter use as needed, and one set of grippy summer tires for use. As needed.

Hate to the burst the bubble, but the HTR ZII would not be any good.. for one the tread pattern is for summer

The standard HTR+ are good in snow

Or if you want to spend the money I have had nothing but GOOD luck with the Blizzaks.
but If you already have the Sumitomos and the RE92.. I would go with the RE92 as well.

Or just bite the bullet and get some Snow tires.
