I always recommend an upgrade to 225/50-16. Here are the good ones in that size:

Bridgestone Turanza LS-V - Smoothness over cornering
BF Goodrich G-Force KDWS - Ultra high performance all season
Bridgesone Potenza RE950 - High perfornance all season
Continental Exreme Contact - Ultra high performance all season
Dunlop Sport 5000 - Ultra high performance all season
Michelin Pilot Sport AS - Ultra high performance all season, wow
Sumitomo HTR+ - Ultra high performance all season (I use these)
Yokahama AVS DB S2 - Ultra high performance all season

These are all 'all season' tires that offer varying levels of performance and smoothness. They all also meet or exceed a 'V' speed rating - a requirement on your WRX. Go to our tire surveys to see what others think of this list.

Thumbs up

I have to put my vote up for the Sumitomos. Those are pretty much the best bang for the buck.

I vote for the RE950's - they are great on the street or track, and do pretty well in the dirt and snow.

Car Info: Not a WRX any more . . .
I've had RE950s on my Jetta for about a year now, and liked them so much I put a set on the WRX before I even took delivery. Great on pavement wet or dry, and they seem reasonable off the pavement although I haven't done a lot of that. I've driven them while it was snowing, but not on any reasonable accumulation of snowsnow -- I would be surprised of they were very good in snow, but according to the tire rack surveys they aren't all that bad.

Plus, I really like the way they look on the WRX.

Yes. Directional tires can be rotated front to rear, asymmetric tires can be rotated any which way. The only way to move a directional tire from side to side is to dismount it from the wheel and remount it in the other direction.

The only benefit is a slightly smoother ride because of the decreased width compared to the 225/50.

DanaJ,

What size are you looking for? I don't see the 950 in applicable sizing. Take a look at the Sumitomo HTR+ if not.

They're the same height (because 55% of 205 is nearly equal to 50% of 225) and a bit wider (225mm vs. 205mm).
