Max Tread width for an 04 WRX Wagon?
Hey Im going into AutoX D-Stock and cant afford light weight 16" rims so Im using my stockers. I want to know though what is the max width that the Wagon can take? I heard 225 is the max then I heard 215. Which is true since Wider is better
Thanx
Im going with 225/50R16 Kumho V7000 Victoracer or the Toyo RA's if 225 is a size that can clear.
Im on a budget

You can use a 225/50-16 and not have any problems, not sure if that remains true if you've got suspension mods. The 215 width is recommended when going to 17" wheels because 225's may rub. In the case of 17's you have to take into account the offset of the wheel and the width of the tire before determining the what tread width to go with. I believe the general concensus is that a 17" wheel w/an offset of +53 with a 225/45-17 will not rub dependent of the tire, tires that are notoriously wide like S-03's and the Azenis may still cause rubbing on wagons. Again, I'm not sure if the offset rule holdes true if you've got suspension mods. But wheels like Rota's that have a +48 offset will most likely rub with 225's unless you roll the fenders.
The other thing with 225's on the stockers is that being a 6.5" wide wheel the sidewalls may bulge a little bit and not be as stiff and hurt handling a little, but upping the tire pressure may help compensate for that some.
I don't know about the tires you're planning on using as far as their actual width goes, perhaps someone who has experience with these tires can comment on whether or not they're wider than most 225's. But with 225's on the stock wheels I'd bet you wouldn't have rubbing issues as long as you're on stock suspension.

The size depends on which brand of tire you use. Some high performance tires are wider in 215/50 than other tires are in 225/50. S03s, Kumho MX, and falken Azenis are examples of good autocross tires that run a bit wider than their size indicates. Use the specs pages for each tire you consider on tirerack.com for further guidance.
