I have a set of 225/45/17's sitting in my office right now! They'll go on the car once the new wheels arrive tomorrow...
These links may not work, as Tirerack likes to have you start from their home page rather than be linked in, but if they don't work, just go tirerack.com & search for that size in Khumo tires...

Khumo Tire Comparison Test
I've got a 270 mile treasure hunt/rally on Saturday, so I might post my initial impression of the tires on Sunday....

Thanks for the links but I have read those reviews. The Tire Rack tests do not compare the Ecsta MX against the S03's so I have no idea how interprate that information. The user reviews are why I began to consider this tire in the first place. No one has had anything negative to say... I just need to hear a first hand expierence.

AHAH!
Two relavent threads from the other club:

The sidewalls have a lot of funny raised stuff on them- I wished they would have deleted that and just put a nice rim protector bead on it.

Well, this is a VERY preliminary review - one day after installing them, I did a 200 mile club rally/treasure hunt. These tires replaced the OE RE92's, so I can't comment on them directly against anything else so far as performance goes. I also installed new Tein springs at basically the same time, so some of my perceptions will be a combination of spring & tire.
My impressions...
Peformance: WOW! I was taking 20 mph posted hairpins at 35-40 in, 50 exiting. I think I got just a hint of a slide a couple of times. Not a peep out of the tires, just lots of grip. I was running 34 psi front, 38 psi rear, -1.6 camber on both fronts, 0 toe. The car felt great - set it into the corner & exit flat out. Next time out I might run a bit less air pressure. During a rest stop, I measured the hot tire pressure - 39 front, 46 rear!
Ride: Good... for a max performance tire. These certainly don't have the ride comfort like the RE92's, but I imagine that a lot of the ride difference was due to the new springs. (Although these are a new Tein spring, stiffer spring rates, but only a 1" drop in front & .8" in the rear.) Hard to say. They are certainly acceptable to me.
Noise: Good. Better than I expected with the big, meaty tread blocks. The only time I noticed noise was on some rough sections of otherwise smooth asphalt.
I'll post more in a few weeks after I've had more time with the tires...

tire weight
My kumho 712's are too darn heavy....not many people think of tire weight, only rim weight. somebody I know is running 17 subzeros with 225/45/17 falken azenis and is about 2lbs heavier than stock ( wheel + tire combo ) I'm running the exact same rim with 225/45/17 kumho 712's and am 4 lbs heavier than stock. i know many may scoof at 2lbs but I am now a firm believer in "rotational mass" being much worse than just adding 16lbs to the car.....my car is noticably less quick at low rpm ie, cruizing at 2000RPM in fourth or fifth gear.
Sorry for the long post,
Steven
