I got SCREWED by TireRack! I thought they were reputable...sorry Dex
3 weeks ago, I bent my rim so I went to TireRack. I bought a OEM WRX wheel off them for $88 + $20 s/h and they guaranteed that they were new wheels. So I received it 3 days later, and paid the outrageous (but expected) customs of $60CDN.
BUT, when I opened the box, the wheel had tiny little scratches all over the spokes that I could not polish off. In addition to this, there was a 1/4 circumferential scratch made (presumably) by a weight on the rim. I phoned TireRack and complained and they said that I could send it back and REPAY the freight charges or they will give me a $30 refund.
Well, I told them I would thnk about it. So after work I went to go pop this rim onto my car adn the shop ask me: "Did you buy this new?" I said "yeah" and they said "how come there is a weight on it?" and I didn't know thatnew wheels didn't come with weights. Anyway, they said that there were lugnut marks on the rim and that the weight means that this was a used OEM wheel with blemishes. I was just sick of this running around without my car so I said "Put it in" and I drove home 3 blocks from the shop.
Angered by this, I phoned TireRack right away to complain and they said "Hmm...maybe the returned wheel got mixed up with the new wheels." And after a discussion with her supervisor, she said "BTW, this is a TakeOFf wheel which means that it has been used before." I was like how come you guys didn't tell me this before when I phoned you about it? And then I asked what I could do....and OMG guess what she said..
#1. Return it and we will give you a refund, but you have to pay ALL shipping and customs/freight from Canada.
#2. Keep it on your vehicle and we WILL NOT give you a refund. Basically, I'm screwed because I put it on my vehicle already.
I was pissed and demanded to speak to the supervisor and after 5-10 min of waiting, she wouldn't talk to me and gave me the same options! I wanted to speak with someone else and she said there are no more people who will speak directly to customers. Finally, I said I will complain in writing and she said she would give me a $30 refund.
This whole ordeal took 2-3 hours of my time. Dealing with TireRack was a PAIN and UNPLEASANT to say the least. I will never go with them again.

I am surprised.
Tim Joins<sp?> the sales manager just phoned me from TireRack and personally apologized for my bad experience. He offerred to take $50 off my $105 purchase and said that he would personally give me a good deal on the next tires I bought (I was looking at the yokos ES-100 on my 17"rims).
Hmm..maybe not that bad afterall.
I'll try again, but the wounds will be slow to heal.

Sorry about the issues aznfoos. The sales rep should have known - these are "take off" wheels. This means that the wheels are put on at the factory with tires and all. When they reach our borders, some of them are upgraded with the 17" optional wheels and tires. We buy the wheels/tires that are taken off and bust 'em apart and sell them separately as "take offs." We always try to tell customers this - sometimes it doesn't get transmitted correctly...
Anyway, I'm glad Tim covered it for you. We are reasonable people here. Whenever you see a post blasting us, you'll see that we address the problem fairly. So, just give us a call if there's a problem - no need to overreact.
