Question How to remove wheel weight residue

I just picked up a nice set of OZ Superturismo Evolutions at a steal of a price. They are in great condition, with the exception that there is a lot of residual adhesive from previously placed stick-on wheel weights left on them. I tried using Goo-Gone combined with scraping at it using a plastic putty knife, and that doesn't work. Does anybody have any method that has worked for them in the past? They are gold in color, so the black residue really stands out. I don't want to try anything too abrasive. Any ideas would help!

WD-40. Just reach over to the shelf, I am sure you have it. Works on sticker gum, badge ka-ka and REALLY works wonders for cleaning sport bike rims :-)

I think I have always had a prejudice against WD-40, but it did work like a charm! I just let it soak for about 15 minutes, used a razor blade to scrape off the remaining adhesive, and then used a corner of a dish sponge to get the remaining residue. Can't even tell it was there. Thanks for the advice!

I was actually told afterwards by a friend (who rides bikes) that Goo-Gone can actually strip paint whereas WD40 doesnt. Who knew?

At AMerica's Tire Co. we had some 3M thing. Maybe you could look for that too.

Why bother when EVERY autoparts and hardware store carries WD-40. 30+ years of using it on paint, wheels, anything with gum left behind has worked 100% of the time and NEVER damaged any surface, clearcoat, polished aluminium... et.al.

Try cleaning a rear sport bike rim with anything else. You will be hating life :-)

Haha! Patience!

We still have snow on the ground here so getting caught driving without all season or winter tires is a no-no. I put them on already and parked the car until the first of April, but maybe I can take it out today since it is nice and sunny and nobody will know or care. I'll be posting this year's updates on my gallery page. To go with the shoes, ver5 headlamps and a ver5 wing. Yeah, I know, its a version 4 now, but I like the version 5 better. Anyways, I dont want to buy a whole new car just for its asthetic differences.

BTW, thanks to the guy who suggested using WD-40 the first time. I use it to clean just about everything now. It work wonders for dishes and takes soap scum off of my shower walls like no other!

Today weather was beautiful, so I took the ride out for a bath. I'm not going to waste space posting a pic here, but this is the link to the gallery.
