Goodyear RS-A on 2002 WRX Sedan...

Hi All:
I have 24k on my original tires, and am planning to purchase new ones in a week or two. I have done a lot of research at Tire Rack, and the best reviews are for the Yokohama Avid V4S. My main concern is good cornering on wet & dry, not too loud & decent snow/ice handling (I know- a trade off for one or the others, but I am looking overall without having to get a set of snow tires). I live in Northern NJ about 20 minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel, for point of reference on the area I'm driving in. I went to a local dealer, and he recommended (what he carries, of course) Goodyear Eagle RS-A. There are mixed reviews on that tire at Tire rack...basically better reviews when the car is a bit heavier (I believe I am in the "lighter" category). Has anyone had these & what are the opinions? Thank you all!

satdoug,
I can't speak from experience on my wrx, but I did have the Eagle RS-A's on my grand prix gtp and hated those tires. They didn't grip very well in the snow, rain, or even in the dry. I replaced them with Bridgestone re950's and was very happy. I am currently looking for a all-season replacement for my re092's on my wrx and will go with either the perelli pzero nero m/s or some toyo proxes 4's. Both are supposed to be very well liked by impresza owners. The last time I checked, the goodyear rs-a was quite a bit more expensive than both the perelli's and the toyo's. Just my 02.

Peace,
BK

Tirerack uses the RS-A as a comparison tire in many of their tests. Problem is, they use it to give you an idea of where a mediocre OEM tire would fall compared to the tires they're testing. It underperforms just about everything out there that even hints at being a performance tire.

friedmud,
The Falcon ze 512 tires are suppose to be very good as an all season tire. Online, you can find them for $61 a piece. $40 shipped, and about $20 per tire(mounted and balanced) --$360 for high performance all seasons isn't to bad at all!! Just my .02 though.

Eagle RS-A's are 100% garbage ... loud, harsh, with little to no grip in any condition

take a look at the Avon Tech M550 .... it's really good

i had a set of the Yokohama Avid V4S on my wrx for a while. they are decent in any type of weather, but that's it. if you enjoy spirited driving on dry roads, these tires are going to dissapoint.
