Dunlop sp 5000 vs. Yok AVS dB S2 - any opinions?
Just picked up my 03 legacy se wagon last night... thinking about upgrading the tires... this is my wife's car, so it won't be driven hard at all - I'm more concerned about safety when its wet, etc...
We had sp5000s on my wife's old car and i liked them a bunch. Tirerack has the yok dB S2s for about the same price, with a nice little coupon to boot... anyone have any opinions on the two tires? the db s2 appears to be kind of new - so not too many reviews over at the rack...

No experience with the Dunlops; however, I have the older version Yoko's AVS db in 225 - 60 x 15 on my wife's '95 Nissan Maxima. They are quiet, good in the rain, stable, predictable and I would get them again. I had them on my '93 Mazda RX-7, also, because they were a good, quiet tire with good wet performance. I was just tired of the noise of the Ultra High and Max Perf tires and went with them (they're Ultra High All Season) for the quiet. They surprised me with how well they handled in the dry, too, as well as giving great performance in the wet. Never did get them to hydroplane in either car. Unfortunately the RX-7 was totaled in Feb, that's when I got my WRX, so I can't give mileage, but they were lasting as long as any others. On the Maxima, driven very conservatively, they have @ 20K miles on them and look like new, although I am sure they have worn. I haven't measured them but they look really good. Hope that helps.

I'd recommend the 5000s for your wife because they ride a bit smoother and can be rotated any which way because they're not directional. For more performance oriented driving, I'd go with the Yokahamas. Your wife would likely appriciate the Dunlops more though.
