the wider spacing on the bolt pattern 5 x 114.3 is intended to provide better holding vs. the 5 x 100.
Most JDM cars went from 4 x 114.3 (back in the late 80's early 90's) to a 5 x 114.3 when the cars got over 220hp ratings.
Subaru and Honda were the last (I believe) to stick with the 5 x 100 set ups.
