Cheap rim painting....

What are your thoughts on a autobody shop respraying some rims?

I've given up on my brake dust ruined Rota SubZeros....they have to get fixed.

I've called a few shops and I have gotten a quote of $35 (prep and paint) per wheel at one place. I figure it can't come out worse than what my rims look like now....

I did this at my buddy's shop, it took us about 6 hours to do all four, but it turned out pretty good. Just take some scotch brite pads and scuffing compound and scuff up the all the visible surfaces, (I had some curb rash to sand out too, almost cant tell now). Then shoot a couple coats of primer, let dry, then paint. I went with 2 coats black basecoat for coverage since I was going CGM and the CGM was like $9 a can and the black was like $.99 per can. Then ~3 coats top coat, if you want a gloss finish get some clear and put a couple coats on there too.

EDIT: at $35 per wheel for paint, you may as well powdercoat. I have heard people getting all four powdercoated for <$200

Thanks for the reply, but I thought powder coating was bad for aluminum rims....?

Another shop quoted me $100 per wheel (sand blast, prime, sand and then paint) and with a guarantee....

But that's like buying new Rotas....almost
