best bang for the buck tire/rims combo for the WRX
Hello.
Well I had my WRX for a little over week now, and RE92 are just begging to go in storage for winter use. So I need to get rims/tires, help me out with advice!
budget - 1000-1500 for 4 wheels/tires - 17inch size for the wrx.
Primary use - Daily Driver, Occasional Track and Auto-X. Summer only.
Roads around where I live are really bad - so the wheel needs to be strong (and not too heavy for auto-x).
cheers

well im not an expert or even knowledgeable, but just to give you a reply. i've read that people say the rotas hold up well. they may have had some QC issues in the past, but so far people have only had good/decent things to say about rota. i'm getting a set myself wrapped in some khumo 712 because my car is my commuter, so i just want cheap tires that i can wear down and not break the bank.

For $1000-1500, you're pretty much limited to Rotas. On the plus side, $550-700 for Rotas leaves plenty of budget for tires, which is the more important part. Skimp on the wheel budget and splurge on the rubber.

it looks like i am going to go with rotas. However, it looks like I can get a set of prodrives http://home.att.net/~teaguesauto/wheels.htm for about 1000$ and 500$ would buy me decent tires.
are prodrives better then rotas? they seem heavier. It would be 300 more for prodrives, is it worth it?
thanks for the advice!

I'm not sure which Prodrives you are looking at but in that price range I'm thinking you are talking about the P1s and they are 7” wide rim. I looked at the Prodrives as well but decided I wanted the wider rim for a more aggressive look. I didn't buy the Rotas, but I hear they are nice for the money. Instead I bought 5Zigen Pro Racer GN+ with Yokohama ES 100s and they were 1500 shipped. The 5Zigen rims are 17x7.5 5x100 48. and they are lighter than the Prodrives and about the same weight as the Rotas. There are some options if you don’t mind looking around.

good point about 7.5 vs 7 - i missed that with prodrives. 17.5 is better it seems.
The 5Zigen Pro Racer GN+ look nice! were did you get them from?
thanks
right 7.5 vs 7 my bad

You mean 7" vs. 7.5" right?
I don't think too many people have them so you won't have to worry about everyone having a set. Anyway I got them from Vick at Wheel options 1-888-568-2746.
They will mount, Balance and ship them to you for right around $1500.
With a 48 offset they will work well with a standard or lowered WRX Sedan. Be careful if you have a Wagon.
Good Luck

That is exactly what I did and IMO it is the best mod I have done to my car yet. The total cost of the wheels, tires, spline drive lugs, mount, balance, shipping and taxes was $1427.59. I bought the wheels and lugs from Subydude and the tires from Firestone. Like Ban suv's said, save $ on the wheels and go all out on the tires since they are what keep you stuck to the road and so3's stick like a ****.
The new Pilot PS2's are rated better and are cheaper than the so3's according the Tire rack. Here is a link http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...nextGen_c.html.
