245/45 r17 tires=what rim width?

My cousin bought a forrester with these tires. The rims are corroded and shot. She just paid $700 for new tires. Are there any OEM rims that these tires will fit?

Perhaps another way to say this is: What is the narrowest rim that these tires can safely fit?

it depends on the specific tire. If you bought them through tirerack (or even if you didn't) check tireracks tech page for the tires, and one of the coulumns is rec'd rim size, and then you'll know what the min and max is.

...:sigh:...

I see this type of thing all the time. Do you know where she bought the tires? What kind of tires were they? Can she return/exchange them? What year is the car? What is the width of the wheel?

17x7.5 should work, 17x8 is better.

I don't have any information but the size (she lives 300 miles away) They have driven on these tires for 4 months (at least) I THINK returns will not be possible. The car is a 1998 forrester. the rims are (poorly) double drilled, and, I think, are aftermarket. I'm making a winter setup with OEM steelies and snow tires for them, Looking to get alloy wheels, in the spring that they can put these tires on. I figured 7.5 or 8 would work, but wasn't sure. thanks.

I can't believe the tire shop even agreed to mount new tires on the rims....they're so corroded, I'm afraid they will simply fall apart....I'm surprised the tires even hold air.

If the wheels are dual bolt pattern they are not OE nor are they designed for Subarus. How do you know that the wheels are corroded? Are they chromed? Maybe the previous owner left fix-a-flat in the tires/wheels.

I doubt that they're OE. The double bolt drill is badly done aftermarket. I know the wheels are corroded because the metal looks like corral. It's corroded. It looks like it will crumble apart...it's crazy.
