06 STi offset question
I have a 2006 STi, and I'm shopping for winter wheels and tires. Does anyone know what offset range I can use? I am looking at wheels with a 38 offset. If you get a higher number offset, does that mean the wheel will stick out further, and fit over the breaks better?
Thanks
Thanks

The width of the wheel and possibly the design if the spokes will play a role when figuring out offset. A 8" wide wheel will require a different offset than a 7" wheel.
FYI, offset is the distance from mounting surface (the part that touches the brake disc) to the center line of the wheels width.
BTW, the design (angle, arch etc.)of the spokes is what determines if it will fit over the calipers or not. I'm not positive but I think some manufacturers might lower the offset to make certain spoke designs fit over larger calipers.

I was reading your lengthy goings around with the other user, who purchased the 35mm offset rims. I guess maybe I should stay away from the 38mm offset wheels I was looking at. I'm trying to find some relatively inexpensive wheels (new or used) to put some WinterSport M3s on if anyone has another suggestion.

Thanks, I (unlike other people) appreciate the advise.

Subydude sells rotas and they seem to be in your price range. Their wheel guide is under construction right now but I would think most of the wheels he has with a 5X114.3 would clear your calipers (not positive though). They won't try to sell you wheels that won't work on your car so give them a call before you buy.

Rota Torque is nice and will fit.

Interesting. I would have never thought to consider sidewall height for determining the traction ability of a winter tire. Hmmm
