What's the LAW in CA on open carry?

Forget the stigma, I could care less about what people think, what the law? anyone know?

I'll friggin' start carrying openly in a detective style holster. Actually, if it legal, we should all be doing this. Eventually it will be challenged, and then set in stone that it's legal. could be a great move for gun rights in CA.

I still don't understand all these laws around the 2nd amendment. A second amendment says the right to bear arms.

To me that **** is VERY VERY SIMPLE. You can carry your weapon and ammo in it anywhere, wherever. Maybe besides school, cuz there is no need for it (k-12) but the rest is balogne.

Gotta be locked, gotta be separated, gotta have it in the trunk, blah blah blah. Just stupid hassles to me that is unconstitutional, that's how I view it.

So...on an airplane, on a bus, in the movie theater, at the hospital and at sports games would you REALLY feel safe if you knew everyone was packing?

Hell no.

You have to remember who we are dealing with - people in general are stupid, panicky cattle that, if spooked, with guns will unload.

No thank you sir, please have guns contained within homes, hunting and gun ranges.

Yes. Unloaded open carry is legal in CA.

Just make sure you're not within 1000ft of a school or gov't building and you should be fine.

Those places are already legal to conceal carry in in California with permit IIRC. Most of the off limits places in Cali are exempted for CCW holders.
Problem is just being special enough to get a permit.

Yeah, because a few law abiding tax paying, citizens; carrying their lawfully owned firearms are so much more dangerous than the hundreds of gangbangers that already do so illegally.

I'm not condoning those who illegally posses firearms in the slightest - but making it legal won't do anything to stop that.

I dunno. I know most kids would think twice about trying to mug me or something if they could clearly see I was packing.

Actually, what's the big deal with CCW? Everyone wants one.

I'd be totally happy to carry open. People would definitely think twice.

Laws against carrying a weapon only affect law-abiding citizens, and therein lies the problem I believe.

Wait a minute.. Your logic is hurting me..
So making it illegal, did nothing to stop crooks from commiting crime, thus the law fails, and removes rights from citizens unnecissarily .That alone should be reason to overturn the law (not even considering the constitutionality of the law itself)

When in America did the default position become to disallow rights because some criminal douche might use said rights against others.. (oh right... New deal)

Two reasons for a CCW.
1. Concealed gives you an edge.. you show your cards in poker right? Also prevents you having a target on your back. First target in a bank robbery is the guard..

2. So you don't have to deal with the police every time some sheep loses his mind and calls the cops because someone is *GASP* carrying an Eeeeevvvill Gun.

A side bonus, is that as towns get more and more CCW's the folks that wouldn't mug you becuase you are obviously armed will think twice if you Might be armed..
Crime will also be decreased through attrition of criminals..
