I think a little of both. Let's face it, if WWII happened today there would be nowhere near the amount of support there was during the 40's. There wouldn't be any way to use propaganda on US Citizens like we did during WWII either. The NYT would debunk every claim... everyone would still be holding on to their metal items and women wouldn't be working in factories. Hitler wouldn't be considered as significant a threat as today's history books suggest. We'd lose... I could go on which is sad.

I don't know where you get this idea, since in today's political climate we've had no instances where a war was so obviously neccesary against a true 'axis of evil' like what happened in WWII. Now...if Iran started exterminating non-Muslims, they took over several of our allies by force, and one of their allies attacked us out in the open at one of our military holding spots...then I'm sure we'd have the public support to erase them from the map. If that doesn't happen, you can speculate all you want, but it just amounts to some self-fulfilling rhetoric.

I don't think it's self-fulfilling or whatever... and to be honest my assumption may be drastic (though I wouldn’t bet on it). But there's no doubt that today's society has more people that are not willing to stick together for such a cause (because of laziness, poor work ethic, etc) and those that are against war altogether.
One thing is for certain, so long as there are bloodsucking media outlets and those that insist on knowing everything our government does regardless of how pertinent it may be to their freedom, then we’ve lost all useful propaganda in fighting such a war. This will further influence more to never lift a finger for the cause.
