Obama official on leave after FBI raids

WASHINGTON (AP) — An aide to President Barack Obama is on leave from his White House job after the FBI raided his old District of Columbia government office Thursday, arresting a city employee and a technology consultant on corruption charges, a White House official said.

Authorities say Acar and Bansal, along with others, defrauded the government through a variety of schemes, including billing the city for items that were never delivered and "ghost" contract employees who did not work. The scheme involved Acar approving falsified bills and splitting the money with vendors including Bansal, who submitted them, court documents alleged.

There are two issues here, one that matters and one that does not.

I couldn't give a flying **** that he was John Lindh's lawyer. He is a defense attorney, and that is his job. Would I have taken the case? Maybe not. But I do not think this should be at all important in whether or not he gets the job.

However, I do think it is a problem that he raised $65 million and then somehow happened to get such a plush position in the administration. I realize this is kind of the norm in American politics, but it still bothers me.

I see your point, but look at the OJ Simpson case.
Had he not been a famous football player/actor, would we know anything about his freeway chase, trials, etc?

It should bother you for exactly that reason.

MANUFACTURED OUTRAGE

So now it appears that President Obama knew all about those AIG bonuses - in time to do something about them.

And how did he know?

Because Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told him about them - last Thursday, before AIG honchos disbursed $165 million in "retention" bonuses to many of the same folks who basically bankrupted the company last year

So the treasure could have just said, "no" and the retention payments wouldn't have been made?

Doesn't sound plausible. What happened to all of the talk about honoring contractual agreements and such? The contracts wouldn't have matter if the treasury disapproved before hand?

Something doesn't sound right about this.

Obama Wants to Disarm U.S. Pilots

The Obama administration is taking steps quietly to shut down the program that qualifies commercial airline pilots to carry firearms in jetliner cockpits in order to ward off another 9/11-type attack.

The administration recently diverted $2 million from a program to train and certify pilots to carry firearms safely while on duty. Instead, it is using the money to hire additional field inspectors to help discipline pilots who step out of line, according to a report in Tuesday’s Washington Times.

A Times editorial condemned the Obama administration's action, calling it “completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots.”
