Obamarama - daily discussion on our 44th president

I'm willing to bet that the secretary of the richest man in the world has a higher yearly salary than most of the people on this site, and he most certainly makes her work as a lot more than a "coffee getter."
Anyone that has any experience in corporate America can vouch for the fact that executive assistants work their asses off for their bosses. No pun intended, either.
Good quality executive admins get six figure salaries, and deserve every penny of it for the bull**** they put up with. Trust me on that one.

DC on verge of getting a vote in the US House
WASHINGTON (AP) -- They live in the shadow of the Capitol dome, but District of Columbia residents have never had what Americans in all 50 states do: A voting member of Congress.
Resentment over their long exclusion could soon fade as Congress moves closer to giving D.C. its first full seat in the House. The bill, which a sympathetic President Barack Obama has said he will sign into law, puts the city of 600,000 on the cusp of historic change - if it survives a court challenge...
...Even with growing support, some senators and scholars have pointed out that Washington is a city and the U.S. Constitution says the House should consist of members chosen "by the people of the several states."
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley sympathizes with the plight of D.C. residents, but insists the measure is "flagrantly unconstitutional" and ultimately doomed.

Lol, you guys get screwed because you're not part of a "state". How constitutional
Then they shouldn't be subject to taxation since they have no vote in the congress.

Why the hate?
Without "rich" folks, us folks would have a tougher time getting a job, etc.
A better way of generating revenue is The Fair Tax.
It makes all Americans that spend money a stake holder in our country.

I'm not sure if I buy it. In theory, it sounds good. But when you get down to the nitty-gritty details, I don't think it makes sense. The fact is that such a system would have disproportionate negative impacts on the poorest of Americans while having outlandishly positive impacts on the wealthiest. I don't buy the idea that monthly checks proposed to be given to poor families will accurately offset their increased tax burden.
Furthermore, from what I understand the proposed rate of 23% (which is actually 30%, if you look into the details) would not bring in enough income, thus increasing the deficit even more over the long haul.
I'm open to the idea, but IMO the hype over the flat tax does not reflect the reality.

They are far more than what you seem to think they are. I can tell you that our Chairman, Alain Rossmann--the man responsible for WAP and worth something like 6 billion--pays our executive admin a six figure salary. You get what you pay for, and the richest man in the world (not third richest) likely demands excellence from anyone close to him, and is no doubt willing to pay for it.

I haven't read much about the Fair Tax Act, but from what I've read it seems like it would eliminate a lot of the loopholes used to avoid income taxes, which is a good thing, I suppose. I'm generally inclined to support anything that cuts back on money given to the federal government, so I'm kind of biased.

Without wealth, you still have greed. People have been ****ing over other people since the dawn of time for the sake of greed and self interest. There's no getting around it. At leat in America, everyone has the chance to become that wealthy person. So there's less reason to complain about getting ****ed over by the wealthy and become wealthy yourself.

It takes a lot of wealthy people to allow you the comfort of sitting in a house with a cold bottle of beer. Items cost money for a reason.

I apreciate your opinions though; thank you.

That's not a term I like to use in polite company--or in public--because of the stigma associated with it by people who are ignorant of it. Let's just say I have strong "libertarian-socialist*" leanings.
*Note: Don't freak out on me; libertarian-socialism is voluntary regional socialism, not government-controlled and compulsory state-socialism.
