While, I'm sure that Obama will get a lot of rightly and wrongly deserved blame, GW did plenty to deserve the crap he got.

Granted a good question. But even 25K temp jobs is better than just watching the unemployment rate keep rising. It's a positive shock to the job market which can contribute to getting other people back to work.

Superglue WRX is exactly right. We will take what we can get right now. But again that's just the infrastructure part of the money. In addition to that there is a substantial portion of monies for education and re-training of workers. I suspect we will hear more about this as time goes on, at least here in Michigan.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the majority of those out of work in MI (but by no means all) have no college education and, well, to be blunt, don't have the intellectual capacity to be a good doctor or teacher. We can't all be astronauts.

By employing them in the construction industry we can complete many very much needed infrastructure projects and at least give some people employment in the short term. I know that in my state at least, some of the greatest public spaces and projects came out of New Deal employment programs like the CCC.

^^ Yeah but I dont want Forrest Gump to build the next Bay Bridge expansion. namean?

but I do support training people for new career paths. So as long as simple jobs are provided for one to grow, i'm all for it.

After the projects are complete, it will be back to collecting unemployment checks. Wonderful.

Transportation secretary says taxing how much we drive may replace gasoline tax

From a goddam republican to boot!

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn — an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.

Gasoline taxes that for nearly half a century have paid for the federal share of highway and bridge construction can no longer be counted on to raise enough money to keep the nation's transportation system moving, LaHood said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled," the former Illinois Republican lawmaker said Thursday.

Conscription is slavery. No government should be able to force its people into servitude.

Indentured servant then?

Either way, your sarcasm apparently fell short of target.
