Seems some may have actually won their cases and not went to jail. But they still had to owe what was due.

1. Contention: The filing of a tax return is voluntary.
Some assert that they are not required to file federal tax returns because the filing of a tax return is voluntary. Proponents point to the fact that the IRS itself tells taxpayers in the Form 1040 instruction book that the tax system is voluntary. Additionally, the Supreme Court=s opinion in Flora v. United States, 362 U.S. 145, 176 (1960), is often quoted for the proposition that "[o]ur system of taxation is based upon voluntary assessment and payment, not upon distraint."
The Law: The word "voluntary," as used in Flora and in IRS publications, refers to our system of allowing taxpayers to determine the correct amount of tax and complete the appropriate returns, rather than have the government determine tax for them. The requirement to file an income tax return is not voluntary and is clearly set forth in sections 6011(a), 6012(a), et seq., and 6072(a). See also Treas. Reg. ' 1.6011-1(a).

So the kid knows something the rest of America doesn't. I should have been homechooled. Damn. I could have avoided paying taxes all these years...lol.
I was ready to graduate highschool after my first day being a freshmen. After all, I didn't learn a damn thing from that day forward. High school was just a big social gathering for me. I had LOTS of fun.

Assuming your Stock Purchase plan is 10% of your salary like most places then you actually took home ~79% which is really good. (minus sales tax and other misc taxes). You can't count stock plans or 401k as "not getting your money." Those are totally voluntary and considered extra expenses. Don't group them with your taxes.
Oh, and to the guy not paying taxes: They will find a way to catch you and you will pay them. If you don't want to pay this country to provide the living atmosphere you are enjoying now, then please move to some 3rd world hole and not pay them any taxes. I don't agree with how some of my tax money is spent, but there are plenty of things in America that are given to me I'm thankfull for. I know there are problems with spending, and who wouldn't want some extra cash in their pocket...but I would NEVER trade the money I spend every year on taxes to live somewhere other than the USA.

Hey, I'm not trying to convince anyone here. Go ahead and let them rob you of your 60 some percent. That's solely up to you and your understanding.
On to the word VOLUNTARY, that's what it means....voluntary. What you are describing there is self assessment. Something completely different. Once you volunteer to be under their tax paying system, you are required to self assess what you are making, and pay according to that, which is completely unconstitutional. The quote you pulled that from is straight from irs.gov. Ofcourse the spider is going to say that to the fly, that's what they're there for ...REVENUE. There are only two constitutional types of taxes to be imposed on residents, excise and direct. This does not fall under either.
If you would like to learn more, this book is a great book to start out with. .. "Become a Nontaxpayer and Save," written by Floyd Wright, who actually beat out the IRS on their own game and won.
Oh, and maybe you should have been homeschooled, I've been to our public schooling system and most of it is a complete waste of time. It's not just me that knows this about the irs, I know plenty of people that do. The info is out there, you just haveto find it.

subywgn,
Nothing wrong with being home schooled. Perhaps your teachings were slightly skewed. You wouldn't be the first person to be duped by their parents. Floyd Wright did not beat the IRS and pretty much lost everything ( http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/pr...TICLE_ID=17052 ) . Read the article I'm linking to get the facts right. If someone was able to beat out the system the entiree country would follow.

Seriously...how arogant and or ignorant do you have to be to think you've beaten the system and that the majority of people don't have the time or ability to do so?
If there was a legal way to not pay tax, it'd be on the internet less than one minute after it was discovered. One minute after that everyone would stop paying tax, and a few months after that the country would crumble.
Most importantly; why is it 'cool' or positive in any way to not pay tax. Do you like driving on paved roads? Thank those of us that do our duty and pay.
This slvrsubywgn should be greatful that we all pay his share for him (even if he only makes minimum wage and lives at home with his parents...).

When the b1 bomber roared overhead was freaking proud to be a taxpayer.
My buddy calls it "mothers day" on pay day because he has to pay for all the unwed mothers' babies. When you think of all the people who are needlessly on the tit of our nation it makes you sick. This is a freaking socialist country if you really think about it.
Need money for housing? Done
Need money for food? Done
Have babies and no father? Here you go
Job training? Done
Money for school? Done
Feeling crazy? Here's some more money to make you feel better.
Have a nice day.
