under/oversteer questions

couple of quick question bout the wrx wagon.....in stock form, does it have the tendancy to over or understeer?

also, will adding a larger dia. rear sway bar causes the car to over or understeer?

Stock = Understeer

Larger REAR swaybar = More oversteer.

Well... more like larger Rear Sway Bar= less or almost no understeer. Very hard to totally get rid of it without new struts too.

danx for the info.......

is it that hard to get rid of understeer on the wagon? dang

i'm going to be dropping in cusco front and rear sway bars, i believe the fronts are 21 mm and the rear is adj. from 21, 22, and 23 mm.........should i set the rear to 23 mm then if i want a more neutral feel to the car

i don't do track event....but do occasional canyon runs

That should have a pretty good feel to it. I wouldn't call it neutral exactly, but pretty close. Close enough to be faster and noticeably easier to rotate than stock.

captn'...

when dialing in/out oversteer with swaybars, you want to concentrate on the RELATIONSHIP between the front to rear. my suggestion is to leave the stock front bar but upgrade the rear to a 20 or 22mm bar. the cusco adjustable is a good piece, i'd install is in it's middle position.
the reason why i don't generally like going crazy with huge front and rear swaybars is because they effectively undo the suspension's independent-ness that was engineered into the system. wen i had a wagon, i upgraded the rear bar to a 24mm bar and it made the rear suspension feel like a truck. but it did let me rotate the car like crazy
whatever you choose, just remember that the larger the rear bar is compared to the front = more oversteer.
hope this helps,
-james

The wagon has more neutral weight balance, which means it takes less effort to get more grip in the rear. Adding the 20mm to the wagon is like putting a 22mm on a sedan.
