Stock STi suspension noise- rear
sorry if this has been posted. . . if you seen a thread in regards to this please link.
my question is this. my sti suspension is stock. lately i have been experiencing a "buckling noise in the rear. sounds like the left side. not sure yet.
i have 12,000 miles. never tracked the car never dragged it either. some occasional hard driving. thats about it.
i will hear it when i reverse and also when i start to roll. its always noticeable when i approach speed bumps or uneven roads at slow speeds.
at higher speeds i don't hear it or the road noise might be too loud.
thanks for any input.

grab hold of every piece of suspension you can and give them all a good shake. if you find something loose, thats the problem.. if you dont find anything i would say bring it into the dealer?

thanks for the info.
had my friend listen to it(hes svc. magr where i work)
he was like... "i'll just order u another one"
my main concern is that the strut wasn't loose. . .
for some reason it kinda looked like the strut might have shifted. . .
oh well.

Greg, I've seen a few posts about this over at nasioc. It appears to be a comon problem on the STi's. I'm not seeing it, but I only have 3,100 miles on her so far. Several people have tried to track down the source of the problem and it seems to be internal to the struts.

chronic sti strut problem
my dealer has replaced both of my rear struts (at different times) and I have printed out about 40+ pages of forum discussions on both rear and front strut failure in the STI for him to give to the regional rep who claims to have never heard of this problem before.
this problem is so common that STI struts are regularly on back order!
just my two cents worth.
