steering wheel shakes, help please

I have the ground control coilover conversion kit, stock struts with a coilover type spring so I can raise and lower car at will.

A few months ago my steering wheel started to shake at freeway speeds. I thought it may be my rota rims so I had everything checked and aligned and balanced and it was still there. I just wrote it off as a bent rim and went on with life.

Recently I got a flat tire and had to put my stock rims back on the car. The shake was still there!!

Could I have a bent control arm or something? Any advice would be great.

I take it to this place in San Leandro I think there right by a police station, if someone can help me remember the name of the place that would be good to

Usually shaking steering wheels can be attributed to misalignment or wheels that aren't balanced correctly. But if that isnt the case, get it checked out. You dont want to be moving at freeway speeds and have something break or fall off.

The shaking can also occur w/ improperly installed wheels, especially aftermarket wheels since there are so few that are hubcentric.

thats whats wierd, everything was fine with my aftermarket rims and my suspension until a few months ago.

After my flat i put my stock rims and tires back on and i still have the shake

that is why i think something might be bent, but who knows.

I am goin to take it to a shop first chance i get.

Could this be caused by a bent brake rotor? Of course then you'd feel it when you are braking, as well.

Nothing shakes when I brake so I don't think that is the problem

Another thing that is strange is the severity of the shaking varies from day to day. Sometimes it is bad enough for me to worry and other times hard to notice.

I just hope it is not to expensive to fix

Could it be your steering rack bushings? I know a lot of people change those out for the Whiteline urethane replacements. Failed bushings caused a problem with Sport Compact Car's Project WRX.

Often if its the rotors that are the problem, the vibration is especialy noticable when you first apply presure to the brake pedal. Since you put the old rims back on, the alignment is fine and you still have the problem the brakes are a likely culprit as enzo said.

madmax didn't notice any problems when applying the brakes but rotors would be easy enough to check for runout/warpage.
