If you can turn a wrench, you can install this part. On the other hand, it would only cost ~$20 to have a mechanic do it for ya.

100 bucks? Offer $40- you can get a brand new one for about twice that.

Are you planning on going from 17mm (02 wagon) to 20mm (02 sedan)? If so, this increases the torsional stiffness by well over 100%, and you will definitely be able to tell a difference. However, you will be sacraficing understeer, and your car will be easier to spin out. Also, you will be losing some wheel compliance over bumps (makes the suspension on the left/right move together more, rather than independently)

All in all, I think the factory bar is set to give you understeer for safety. But if you have upgraded suspension or like to take the corners fast, and dont want so much body-roll, then getting a bigger rear sway might not be a bad idea. As with everything, the key is balance.

[move to suspension forum] ??? <-----suggestion to mod

1. if you have the right tools, it's really easy

2. 100 bucks is a friggin rip off, for a little more you can buy a brand new helix rear adjustable

3. from 17->20 makes a nice upgrade. No crazy oversteer, just dials out some understeer.

make sure that the bar is an 02 or early 03 bar. mid/late 03 models started getting 17mm RASB.
Zee sold me his 'stock sedan bar' but was from an 04 so was identical to the bar that came on my wagon.

not a dime more then $50 for the bar.
In all honesty though, just dish out the cash for the adjustable whiteline bar, it is really nice.

For this particular thread poster, I disagree. I want to mention first that I have a Whiteline 20-24mm RSB at the moment, I love it. But for someone with no intentions of tracking or autocrossing, and with stock or nearly stock suspension, the 20mm stock bar is a great value. He'll get all the benefits of the 20mm bar that he'd get with the Whiteline for less than half the cost.

The install is pretty easy (need the car on ramps, but other than that it's just unbolt the old one, bolt on the new one). You can get a new one for under $100 shipped ($94 shipped from subaruwrxparts.com and that includes the new bushings which you will need). For the effort it takes, it is definitely worth it!

No doubt about that! If you can find one of these, you can get the bushings from local vendors or the OEM bushings from the dealership.
Otherwise the aftermarket bars make a good buy for only around $40-50 more then buying a new OEM bar.
