Prodrive introduces Active Shock Technology

Prodrive expects to release it's new Active Shock Technology™ suspension system for the WRX in 2004. It utilizes a chassis mounted 'black box' equipped with accelerometers and a yaw sensor to determine changes to individual shock (inverted struts) valving at each corner. Prodrive's AST appears to have the strut valving mechanism attached just below the strut mounting point so as not to introduce additional unsprung weight to the vehicle. Prodrive's AST is capable of varying the valving from much softer than stock to much stiffer than stock. This system does not adjust ride height.

Target price as reported in Sport Compact Car magazine is below $3000.

Do you know what the threaded sleeve on the strut body and "keyed" collars are for towards the bottom of the strut? Just the ability to swap springs and adjust preload?

very nice. now how about some damn struts to match their springs for a price that isn't above and beyond anything i'd ever consider spending?

the prodrive springs don't work THAT well with 02-03 stock struts. they could have easily thrown out a set matched to those springs before dumping this product on us.

I don't know. I wish the resolution was higher in that image. When I said it didn't adjust ride height, I should have clarified that by saying, "it doesn't adjust ride height automatically." If the assemblies act as regular height-adjustable coilovers, that would suit a greater number of potential buyers.

No worries WW. I was eyeing these myself. If I hadn’t already spent +2k on suspension then I would for sure want to try these things out. But I don't know if it's only for the 04's or not. Haven't really read all the way through the site yet. I saw mention of it in SCC and then went to the site to see if it was shown yet, and sure enough there it was.

$3k is a lot of money for coilovers IMO. I'd take the tein flex over these, which are almost half the price. The prodrives have a lot a great features though.

I am fairly certain Prodrive will make these for the 2002 WRX.

I absolutely cannot wait to see how sweet this active technology is. Prodrive isn't the type of outfit to put out hype without something to back it up with. And they're talking some ridiculous game about these things.
