Perrin/Wilwood Brake Upgrade-Pad Size?
I see the Perrin kit out there, which looks like a good alternative to upgrading and keeping 16" wheels. I have 17"s also, but they have my track tires and are not for everyday use. And, I don't feel like buying another set of 17" wheels.
So, I am thinking about the Perrin/Wilwood upgrade. My biggest question is what pad do they use? Do they use the stock WRX pad/pad size, or is it larger? I know there would be an improvement with 4 piston calipers, but if the pads are the same size it won't be as much.
Related question: How much bigger are the pads in the StopTech brake setup?
Of course, I am referring to front brakes above.
Thanks
P.S. Already have upgraded to stainless lines, Motul 600 and track pads.

Do the perrin calipers have dust caps? I won't buy the wilwwod's since they are esentially a road race kit and not really meant for the street.

He means dust shield or whatever you want to call it. When you remove your rotors, there's a little heat-shield kinda thing there. Wilwood doesn't provide one, but some other makers do. They help keep dust off your wheels and dirt off your rotor.

Oh, I removed mine last week prior to my first track day of 2003, to allow more airflow to the rotors. I know there will be a dusting issue, but it's the tradeoff I am willing to make.
I actually bought some plastic ducts and hoses which I will hook up to direct more air there for the summer track days. It was 30 degrees with occasional snow yesterday at Gingerman in Michigan. Brrrrr.

The Perrin kit uses the Wilwood Dynalite caliper.
You can go to Wilwood's site to see all kinds of info on the calipers and pads.
By my estimate from looking at their site, the 'meat' of the pads is about 2" by 4" or so. The thickness of the pads is also thinner than most street car pads (and most of the pads for wilwoods other calipers)
The used Subaru 4 pot pads I have sitting here with an unknown number of miles on them are about 0.55" thick including backing plate. Just the pad portion is probably close to .5" thick brand new.
---
And I believe the other guy is talking about a dust BOOT or dust SEAL on the pistons to help lengthen the time between rebuilds.
This is a glossary that may help with future terminology.

None of the Dynalite calipers, to my knowledge, have dust boots. Most wilwood calipers don't because they were made for racing, where temperatures get hot enough to melt the boots. No boots is better than liquid boots.
