....can It Be Done?!?!?!?!
i'm looking at converting my '02 OBS rear brakes from drums to discs (from wrx). i am having trouble locating the PROPER AND NECCISARY parts. (without breaking the bank) living in montana doesn't give me the best selection of salavage yards so if anyone knows where to find those sort of parts i'd like their help.

holy crap, a montana subie owner that...mods?
got your location from the myspace profile. there's a yard in Missoula that i go to somewhat often but they have mostly impreza l's, forresters and legacies. it's called C&F Auto parts and it's on the highway by Axmen Propane. i think that's us93 north? haven't lived here all that long. the owner's name is Fedor, russian i think. nice guy, his son whose name i can't remember knows a bit about subarus too.
anyway, you could get the spindles from them off a legacy or impreza. wrx spindles will work too but good luck finding some around here. also, they're HEAVY so shipping them will be expensive. if you're die hard for the wrx stuff, try...spokane? or keep your finers crossed for something local. i dunno.
the wrx has the same rear rotor diameter as the 2.5rs does up to 2001. i'm not sure about past that year. h6 rears are slightly larger than the two and if i remember correctly, the largest solid rotor you'd get off a subaru.
i've got an h6 conversion i wanna sell. it includes everything you'd need except one of the brake fluid hard lines. that'll be about $25 from an online parts place. about 65000 miles on the parts from a 2000 legacy donor car.
they're not on my car, never were. got the stuff and changed my mind to manning up and building a rally car. these brakes aren't allowed in the class i'd be running in.
oh, and i was going to put all this onto a 98 impreza l.
let me know if you'd be interested.

rock on! i'm totally interested in the parts... one problem: i'm in iraq right now. i won't be home for about 75 days (early nov.) it might take me a while to get around to tuning considering that i'll be visiting family and friends for the first month or so but i will eventually be starting back in.
my biggest concern with the swap is the legacy spindles messing up the suspension geometry. i doubt it will be a problem though. i already have coilovers designed for a WRX sedan and they work great. (God bless modular design)

well take your time with family plans and whatnot. i'm not in any rush to get rid of them. about the suspension geometry, i'm not certain about any of that but my guess would be that if legacy, wrx, and older impreza hubs are interchangeable onto another impreza (newer or older), you should be fine. you may need to readjust your camber or toe settings or something like that though.
again, these are logical deduction guestimate sorta things; i'm not an alignment specialist.
just let me know when you're back in the area if you're still interested by then.
