how long does it take a novice to install springs on 02 wrx??

it depends. if you're using air tools and have rented spring compressors, maybe three to five hours? kinda depends on how many mistakes you make. if you're doing it with just a socket wrench and don't have a spring compressor, it could take you all weekend.
if i were you, i'd rent spring compressors from Kragen (or some other auto parts store), and plan to spend the whole day doing it, just to be on the safe side. i'd also reccomend wrangling a mechanically inclined buddy or two into helping you.

took me about two hours first time. i had air tools and a spring compressor. i would NOT do it without the spring compressor, very dangerous. air tools are definatly a plus but are not absolutly needed.

It took me 4 hrs to do it myself w/ airtools. I was going slow taking pictures throughout the process. Give yourself half a day and you should have no problems. Here is my install, there are others on our site:

I did it in 4 hours with only hand tools and no spring compressor.

Real men dont use air tools
