Thumbs up Conventional Damper System v.s. External Reservoir Damper System

Can you guys tell me a detailed info on what the differences are on the Conventional Damper System v.s. External Reservoir coilover system.

I have the TEIN Type Flex now & I would like to get a set of "racing only" coilover system...

Some systems come with ext reservoir becasuse the shock requires more volume.

You will need it for 2 main reasons:

1. Shock body waaaaaaaay too short to have large volume (like on S2000)
2. For hardcore racing use where the oil heats up and more oil = less heat = shock absorber works better.

On a Subaru, the shock absorbers have pretty large volume. Plus, clearance is not really an issue so besides the shocks being nice and long, they are also pretty fat (in diam) especially in the rear. So, there isn't really need for ext. reservoir system on Impreza, unless you go rally racing and have like 20" or suspension travel. Only then your shocks will heat up and would benefit from ext. reservoir system.

That is what I have gathered from various sources.

I talked to the ohlins dealer and he said the race coilovers for the WRC car would rip a part a daily driven car.

Not if you have a WRC-style cage with strut top anchors.
