clunking noise from right rear from 03 wrx
my current setup is just JIC flt-a2 coilovers. yesterday my car developed an awful clunking noise on the right rear. It literally sounds like metal vibrating together continuously at a certain throttle position, if i put the clutch in and let it out, or change gears. if i take hard corners or slam on the brakes, the clunking does not happen. only when giving gas and letting off and gear changes. ive looked at the suspension for hours last night and ive determined that it wasnt my coilovers. the clunking is coming from right under the rear passenger seat. i had my whole rear interior stripped to find the exact location the sound is coming from. under the rear passenger seat is some arm that seems to be holding the rear diff in place. i see that there is a bracket and a bushing also, and it seems like my bushings are gone, but when i checked, they seemed fine. i also checked to see if any arms were bent, but everything seemed straight. im at a total lost right now, because i dont know what is wrong. i torque down every bolt underneath the car and the sounds are still happening. i also noticed that if i took a rubber mallet to the arm underneath the car, it would make the same clunking noise i experience when driving around. has anyone else ever experienced this problem or have suggestions or fixes?

A heavy "Clunk" can be contributed to loose tower bolts. I know its a ***** getting them tight under the speaker floor. A "Wacka Wacka Wacka" means a bad wheel bearing. After putting 40mm DMS in my 2.5 RS I crushed the bearings on one side. That might be your problem. It's not hard to do especially if you're running a real stiff set up. OEM bearings for the rear will run you about $120 at Advanced Auto. I just bought a digital lathe and hope to manufacture Titanium bearings in the near future. I'll post again once I have them made. Putting any coil-overs on will be much more loud then stock. You'll hear all sorts of stuff you never thought you'd hear. It's just the way of the world. I drove around for about a year before correcting the problem. I didn't run into any complications.

hey i figured out what the problem was on my car. the shop i took it to didnt jack my car up right, and they bent the plate that goes over the arm that is holding the diff up. This caused that vibrating noise that i had when the arm and the plate would hit each other. I fixed the problem by taking the plate off and then hammering it til it was flat again. if you dont know which part im talking about PM, me and ill post some pics of it
