clunking niose after coil spring install
I installed a set of lowering springs on my WRX, and noticed I hear I guess you could call a light clunking sound when I go over bumps, not sure if this is the springs settling or shifting, but I am just a little concerned, anyone have any ideas/ thanks

Where does the clunking sound come from? If its from the rear it could be from the swaybar hitting the muffler. Do you have an aftermarket swaybar? This happened to me (without the lowering springs). I'm just going to get a magnaflow muffler that is 2"shorter than stock for about $130 installed, should solve the problem nicely.

Go ahead and take a good look at your swaybar around the muffler area. See if there are any scratches or marks. I noticed that when I installed my spo swaybar with the stock suspension it was less than 1/2 inches from the muffler, and sure enough, when I hit a bump I heard a clunk and I found some scratches on my swaybar. I have some prodrive springs I want to install but they will only make the situation worse because if you lower the car further the swaybar is naturally tilted more rearward, toward the muffler. So I'm holding off my installation till I replace the muffler next week.

I checked it out as far as anything hitting didn't see anything, its a little strange, I can push the car up and down and sounds fine. it seems to be from the rears only it does it more when I turn I don't know, I will check it out to see if I left out thoses washers. Thnaks again

usually springs will settle within 300-400miles of driving...but
if it clunks now, it will continue to clunk.
first thing to check is to see if your stock mounts are
properly torqued onto the shaft. next, check if the
springs are progressive rate or linear. if progessive rate,
chances are the top few coils closest to one another are
hitting themselves while going over bumps. what you can
do is get some coil wraps at radioshack and put it on every
other coil.
if it still clunks, check the sway bar as people above mentioned.
mine are lowered about 2in on TEIN HA's using whiteline
rear swaybar and NUR catback. no hitting issues...so i dont
know how different it is with factory struts + springs.

Check the plate under the front swaybar...in the ALK you get washers that gradually displace the subframe alowing more room for the components but I'd take a look there and maybe grab some washers from Home Depot to allow those few extra mm for clearance of the front sway...esp. if u have the whiteline sway that some people complain about clunking also. As for coilover sleeves..they will always be a bit noisier than a spring..lowring springs and any suspension needs some time to settle but shouldn't be that long.

Maybe this problem has something to do with it. Check the last post, it's a thread about the P1 suspension on ScoobyMods.com.

Well its been about a week or two since i posted this, and the car is still clunking, its coming from the rear for sure, front seem to be ok, it seems to be making the noise more when weight comes off the springs. I am gonna try to retorque the rears, anyone know the correct specs. on that. Whats the easiest way to do it, hopefully I can just removes the three nuts of the top of both sides and do it that way. Also how do you remove the rear seat, I got the upper part uncliped and now I can pull the seat away from the struts, so now how do I remove the bottom half? Thanks again for all your help, I hope I can fix this problem.

another question, I just went to the above site (scooby mods) now on the rear struts I didn't reuse the white rubber bump stops that were there originally, now I still am runnig stock struts, I put on the smaller black bump stops that were supplied with the new springs, could that be the problem?

Shouldn't be. They give you the shorter bumpstops to maximize the travel you have left. The new stops should be noticeably stiffer when you were holding and installing them. Now, if you had left them off completely that might cause it.
