It depends on what you plan to do with your car. If it sees track time, caliper upgrades wouldn't hurt. I think that Subaru 4 pots and StopTechs are basically the best choices, unless you're hellbent on using your stock wheels. Personally, I think it's silly to spend $1500-2000 on brakes and not get better ones because you don't want to replace a $250 set of wheels. If you don't see track time, just get pads, lines, and fluid like Scotty said. Lots and lots of discussion of those things in this forum.

Their 310mm kit will fit under the stock WRX wheels. The guys at TWR are great. I bought mine through Aerosim Research (714-545-5679). Talk to Kym - she is awesome!
I was leaning towards these brakes due to the 2-piece rotor design and nice 4-piston calipers. The fact that the 310mm kit fits under the stock 16" wheels just sealed the deal!

getting close to the time of upgrading the brakes:
i wanna keep the stock 16" wheels, but add better braking power for everyday driving along with any addition i may choose in the way of engine power
so any input or suggestions on the above mentioned kits or any others is greatly appreciated!

If you got the money to burn....around $2,500( Ap racing 4 piston front brake kit) and for more, the mother of all jdm brake kits around $3,600(Endless 4 piston brake kit).
Both doesn't maintain stock wheels though, but some badass brakes!!

You can probably guess what my opinion is...
If your stock rotors are still within spec, your best value is going to be the Uncle Scotty special: Better pads front and rear, SS lines front and rear, and better fluid.
As you may or may not know, our Stage One kit includes Axxis Ultimate pads (StopTech Street Performance for 2003+ models) front and rear, StopTech SS brake lines front and rear, and 3 bottles of Motul RBF600 fluid for either $249 or $349 depending on whether you've got the older or newer calipers, respectively. You'll need to find out which calipers you have no matter what you do, so check this page out: http://www.stoptech.com/faq/data/faq29.htm
Those combos are extremely difficult to beat from a pure performance to price ratio, but the Ultimates and the StopTech pads do produce their fair share of dust. We feel it's an acceptable tradeoff for performance, but everyone has their own preference. Basically if you're looking for a pad that doesn't dust, these aren't the pads for you.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Tim
