ATE PremiumOne Rotor noisy

I have just changed my OE warped rotors for ATE PremiumOne orbital-slot rotors. I'm curious if anyone has the same noise issue that I have. When I brake with any significant amount of force I hear a clunk-clunk-clunk-etc noise until I come to a stop and feel it in the brake pedal. I checked that the pads were seated properly and there were nothing in the way of the rotor as it rotates. I'm using Hawk HPS Street brake pads and they show no weird wear after 100 miles of use. Everything seems fine. Braking performance doesn't seem better, and with the noise and pedal feeling I am prone to think that my braking is worse but I imagine it's psychological. Are these rotors just noisy?

slotted rotors tend to make noise, it depends on the brand.

I've had them before and they didn't sound like this does.

I had to search to see what the product was about: ATE PremiumOne Rotor

I don't think you should be able to hear a repeated 'clunking' noise, nor feel an unevenness in braking through the pedal.

I'm not sure that the rotors themselves are the culprit. Are the calipers and other components all original equipment or was anything else replaced besides the pads and rotors?

Yes everything but the rotors and pads are original from 1997. I was thinking that my caliper may not be working properly, however when I took it off yesterday I had to press the pistons down so I know both are working. Perhaps it's the pads? I am going to get a paid of OE pads and put them on to see what happens.

I'm using Hawk HPS and slotted rotors on my car. Most aftermarket performance pads are noisier than stock under braking, but it should be an even noise and brake application, not pulsating or on-off-on sound or feel. Let us know the results of the OE pads.

Changing to OE pads eliminated the noise and I can actually stop faster now. Apparently these pads/rotor combo don't work well with my car.
