AST Sportline II Coilover Review
This review is on a 2004 STi.
Let me begin by giving Myles and the Racecompengineering staff the credit they deserve. Myles went out of his way many times to make sure I was happy with everything. He answered all of my questions and just about every call..haha. (There were more than a few) So if you need anything, I suggest giving them a call or check out their site. Racecompengineering.com
Alright well I have had these coilovers on my car for two weeks now and have around 1000 miles driven on them. I have had the chance to play around with the settings a bit and see how they react and perform in those different settings. Here are some of my observations....
Full soft which is what seetting I believe they came on- The car rides almost like stock, it rides similar, just smoother. You dont get as much of the bobble head feeling. The turn in and response seems a bit better.
Full Stiff- To me, this is way too stiff for a daily driver. I know some people will think otherwise, but me, I think it is too stiff. Not only that but the car doesn't seem to handle as well either. It is too stiff when you arent on a track and you have bumps to deal with.
7 clicks front/ 5 clicks rear- This is what I currently have the car on. So far this setting seems to be the best. It reacts well over bumps, isnt overly stiff and handles superbly. The body roll of the car has been reduced significantly. Where on a stock STi the car seemed to roll under hard cornering, there would be a huge shift in weight. That is gone. When you come out of the turn you feel the car, you feel the flatness and response. It feels as though you are cutting a groove in the road as you come out of the turn. I love it. With it stock it seemed there was always this edge on the car, it just didnt seem planted. Now it is.
Highway/Freeway driving- These coilovers seem to just get better and more planted the faster you go. That is the best way to put it. They keep the car planted to the road. You can hardly feel the imperfections in the road. I love them.
I have Whiteline steering rack bushings, Cusco Type II lower brace, Cusco F/R sway bars, Poltec Endlinks, waiting to go on. This review is just with coilovers and strut bars on.
I will add more once I learn the set up better and put the rest of my parts on.
Here are some pictures for now...Straight off Racecomp of the coilovers..
