Alarm / keyless chirp not working

My 05 WRX came with the factory alarm, but when I got the car the chirp was disabled. I re-enabled it by pressing unlock then holding lock+unlock on the FOB, and it worked like normal. Then, a day or two later it stopped working out of nowhere. I tried to re-enable it but it wouldn't come back on. Then, a week or so after that I programmed another remote, and the chirp started working again. Shortly after that, it stopped working again.

So it seems to work "when it wants to". Any ideas on stuff I can check? I like the chirp so I know it locked if I cant see the lights.

I searched for this, but couldn't really find a straight answer.

I'd just upgrade to a Clifford or Viper alarm. I have the stock alarm in my 02 and lately the chirp has been working off and on.

Also, do you know if you have the alarm or just keyless entry?

Yeah, its the whole factory alarm, not just the keyless entry. I don't really care to have an aftermarket alarm installed, its not really worth the costs to me. I just want the damn thing to beep lol. Thanks anyway.

Yeah i hear ya. It happens on my 05 sti also. I like the chirp but it works off and on. Thinking about what you said when you reprogrammed your remote and it worked, maybe it has something to do with battery level in the remote. Not sure but if you find anything out let me know. Laterz!

It's a known issue, the electronic beeper units have been a common failure on the 04-05's. If you're under warranty a dealer should replace it for free. The beeper is located up front by the radiator.

its a common problem where the chirping will work sometimes and not work sometimes. i heard its due to other interfering radio signals around the area. sometimes ill get a full chirp, a split second chirp, to none at all.
