22B 4pots on a GM8?
Hello!
I'm contemplating buying 22B 4pots for my RS. I'm just wondering a couple of things:
-Will they clear my stock RS wheels? (2001 RS is 16"x6.5 I believe)
-What is the weight difference from the WRX 4pots to the STi 4pots?
Here is what I know... WRX 4pots are Cast Iron vs STi 4pots which are made of aluminum. WRX are black from the factory, whereas the STi 4pots are powdercoated red.
Please let me know! Thanks!

If your talking about the Subaru v5 and v6 4 pot brake than yes your stock 2001 RS 16x7.0 wheels will fit over the calipers because WRX oem wheels are 16x6.5 and that won't fit over the calipers. Weight difference on the Subaru 4 pot and STi brembo 4 pot is about
10-20 lbs. If your not swapping to an STi motor 280+ hp or modifying your motor to that extreme hp then I don't think you really need the STi brembo. Wait for the 2006 WRX brake kit, it should arrive in 2 months and that comes with Subaru 4 pot/ 2 pot (red calipers) and should be cheaper then purchaseing it now.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, right now I'm just thinking that they are a great deal. I will EVENTUALLY do a motor swap and have plenty of ponies to justify replacing even these with a BBK. And I'm not talking about rotars or brembos from a USDM STi. These are only the 22B calipers with pads.
Here are pictures of the 22B 4pots that I am speaking of:

Yes, you can fit the 22b 4pots with no issues under stock RS wheels. See? I have a set, they fit under stock wheels just fine. That's because our stock wheels are STi wheels overseas for those model years.
Also, your stock wheels are 16x7, and weigh 16.5 pounds. By "wrx 4 pots" you really mean "WRX and STi 4 pots" as they were the same brakes up through version 6. the STi Brembos came on version 7 on cars. There is a significant weight difference between the two. Also, I would not recommend putting the STi Brembos on any car if you don't bring the rears and the STi master cylinder with them. The Stoptech BBK is a much better performing option with your stock MC and rears, and it's cheaper. But, with race pads and stainless lines and good fluid, the 4 pots will go a long ways.

eRF... I'm getting them for.... uhhh... under $600 with only 9K miles on them. My buddy has a WRX with 4pots that have 65% life left and he has 60K miles on them... So I know they have quite a bit of life left. Thanks for the advice, how much is an STi MC? My friend is about to change out his MC so I can see what I need to do. So I'm not positive, but are you telling me I should upgrade my rear calipers as well?
Your car was a beauty man... hope everything works out for you. I just saw your post on RS25.com.
This brake project is really about having better brakes without spending $2,000 to get a nice set-up and be better than stock. I was just looking at getting regular 4pots but then a guy offered these to me, so I'm just tryin' to get some research done on them before I obligate myself to them.
Thanks for you help. Hope to hear back from you.

I treacked my car many times with no upgrades besides what is essentially Stoptech Stage 2 with the 4 pots. It's all you need until you go crazy with power. You don't need the STi MC unless you want to go with STi Brembos- and again, the Stoptech 328x28 kit built for the RS will outperform it anyway, while costing less and giving you a much bigger selection of wheels to use. Also, I'd plan on new pads and rotors. I never trust someone else's used brake parts. I used Stoptech Club Sport for track and autocross, they were awesome, but dusty. Also get a set of Axxis Deluxe Plus for street use. You could fade them if you pushed them hard, but the bite isn't bad and they don't have any dust at all.

The USDM STi have the same MC as WRX, the part guy in Subaru comfirmed it. $600 for red Subaru 4 pot with 9k miles is a okay price because new at www.subaruwrxparts.com have it for $725 new w/ rotors ($625 no rotors) but only in black. Remember the USDM 2006 WRX are almost here and they too have the Subaru 4 pot front and 2 pot rear in red. The prices for the Subaru 4/2 pot front and rear brake kits should be cheaper then the internet when the parts are available in US. But again if you feel you really got a good deal than go for it. Good Luck

I was under the impression the the STi had a larger MC piston than the WRX, but the WRX has a larger one than the RS, so you'd want it either way. The Brembos have a lot of piston volume relative to the RS. The brakes would work, but your bias would be more to the front and pedal travel would be greater.

Umm... they've been available on www.racecompengineering.com for a while. Too bad they aren't 22b parts anymore.
