02 wrx, looking for a brake upgrade
Hey guys, like the title says I own an 02 wrx. I really need to get new brakes and I was considering doing a front brake upgrade. A big brake kit in the front and just some replacement rotors/pads in the back till I have enough to get rears. Anyways I was wondering what big brake kits are really good but are not ridiculously expensive. I have 18" rims so clearance should not be an issue.
Thanks!
Kevin

What are your intentions for the car? If just for show....then your wasting your money...if just for daily driving...your still wasting your money if you are going to get a big brake kit. If you track your car on a regular basis you MIGHT put the brakes to their FULL potential depending on the setup you go with. If I were you and just looking to do brakes, get some nice pads (Hawk HPS, Porterfield R4-S, etc.), some stainless steel braided brake lines, and some good brake fluid (ATE superblue or Motul RBF600). You will save yourself a lot of money when comparing prices with big brake kits.
I was in your same situation, debating on big brakes, or just pads, lines, fluid. I JUST bought Hawk HPS pads, goodridge lines, and am about to buy some Motul fluid.
If your car is a daily driver, just stick to the basics (lines, pads, fluid) unless you want to spend a ****load of money to get *bling* brakes if you aren't ever going to put them to their full potential.

Well, I was originally going to track the car. But seeing as how now I have to drive 40miles a day just to get to work and back, I'll probably just get some new rotors/pads/lines/fluid. I was thinking about getting stop tech slotted rotors atleast in the front, maybe all around, SS lines, and some motul brake fluid. I've noticed that the pads that are on the car right now have a crazy amount of brake dust that coats the rims in like a day. I want low noise, and low dust. Which pads would be best? Also, how often should I flush the system for brakes and replace the fluid?

Stay away from AXXIS pads....they dust HORRIBLY!
I chose the Hawk HPS pads for my car, it is daily driven and will most likely see 1-2 track events within the next couple of months. I've been told that the Hawk pads are a decently soft pad and won't eat up your rotors compared to some other "race" pads. You can also check out carbotech bobcat pads, or the porterfield R4-S pads. These three pads listed should be able to get you where you want to go. I would recommend personally the Hawks because I have heard nothing but good things about them and they aren't too expensive. I got front and rear pads for roughly $160 shipped.

Back when I had my 3000gt (R.I.P) I bought Hawk pads. I'm going to do all 4 rotors/pads/lines/fluid..the previous owner didn't really take care of the car. I was looking on subydude.com and saw a kit including 4 slotted rotors, hawk hps pads, and oil for like $540.00 http://www.subydude.com/osc/product_...91db125d1d1d95
If I did that and just get some SS lines I should be set I think.
Where did you order from?

I ordered my pads from Jeremy@Crucial Racing (crucialracing.com)
I ordered my lines (goodridge SS lines) from Oakos.com for $99+shipping.
I haven't bought my fluid yet, i'll probably try to find a performance shop local for the Motul RBF600 fluid so I dont get bent over for shipping charges.
I am also sticking with my stock rotors. They look fine and don't have any deep scores/grooves in them. I'll just re-bed my new pads in them and it should all workout fine.
Also, don't forget to bed your pads once you get everything installed! THIS IS KEY!!!

My rotors are in need of a changing soon so I might as well do it. Before I go and order something like that kit I'm going to see what I can get at local shops, or cheaper online. Subydude has the same lines you have but at $120.00 so I think i'm going to go through crucial or someplace else.
How quick is crucialracing's delivery?

go here (http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/faqs.shtml) and take a look at some of the frequently asked questions. They have some answers for "bedding pads" and what not. VERT GOOD INFORMATION!!!! READ READ READ!

crucial racing is based out of Berkeley, CA. I live in CA, so shipping to me is going to be fast considering i live about 45 minutes from Berkeley. Jeremy said he was going to ship my parts out on monday (I placed my order on Friday) and the pads should be here by Wednesday. So they are pretty quick dealing with shipping.
I see you are located in San Ramon, I live in livermore. The shipping should be the same amount of time roughly for you as well.

Well, ordering the pads on subydude alone is like 163. I might just do the kit since it's a good 30+ cheaper than buying separate. But I need to see where I can get stuff cheaper first.

Yeah, I can easily get it and not worry about debt. I think I will just order that so it all comes in at once. My upgrade list is brakes/suspension stuff. New tires and then do my sound system since I'm not gonna track the car because I have to commute a lot.
