WRX Swap into impreza L (rallispec)
I have some questions regarding an engine swap. I have 15 thousand dollars to spend on a car. I was thinking of buying a 95' impreza L and swapping a WRX motor into it. Is this a good idea?, Does anyone know what I should be expecting in costs and labor?, Is it reliable?, I have heard of a shop in NJ called rallispec and I was thinking of having them do all the work. Does anyone know of this place and have any comments?
OR Should I just buy a used WRX?
I know a few things about cars, but I dont think I could handle the engine swap by myself, so all of this considering, what should I do?

The engine swap should cost you around $7k-$8k from what I've seen around.
i-speed USA located in the Bay Area (California) is known for their EJ20 swaps (they helped to write the article in this months SCC about EJ20 swaps).
I know there are other shops that can do this, or are starting to do this. This is starting to become quite popular, so many shops are starting to pick up this service.
I can't comment on rallispec, cause I haven't heard good or bad news about their swaps.

There are two legacy GT's from the same body style as your in Toronto that have ej20 turbo swaps in them.
I remember seeing a link on nasioc... let me go find that.

Cool, I can't remember if the thread had any technical information, but I remember the guys saying that it wasn't too painful to do the swap.

Yeah I was looking at a 97-98 L sedan and putting a WRX engine in it. Good luck findin a car with low miles and a manual trans. Most L s were automatics. A 95 will go around 3-5 thousand depending on it's condition.
Anybody know of any place ing Georgia that will do this swap. I really don't want to pay to shipa car to Ca and back.

The install is simple, all bolt on. Usually, when you buy a 6MT, it's either gearbox and driveshaft only, or the complete drivetrain with all the axles, the rear diff, and hubs. The price difference is usually about $1000.

hmm
would it all bolt on in a 98 Impreza L or just the 2002 WRX? I appreaciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I was looking at a stronger trans. and I found a kit with stronger 1-4 gears but it was pretty damn expensive.
I know I could get the STi trans cheaper from wrecked cars.

Everything is bolt-on when it comes to Subaru swaps- it's just a matter of how many parts you have to replace. As long as your car is AWD, it's fairly simple to figure it all out. As for finding cheaper 6 speeds through wreckers, good luck- there are few around, and those that are usually get swooped on before they ever make it there. Wreckers also know what they are worth, so you can't really pull a fast one on them.

Well I have seen some ebay auction for one in particular had everything all the axles, engine, trans, and hubs. Hell, even the brakes were included on the deal.
I can't remember his asking price, but I believe it was very reasonable.

Where else can you purchase these parts? Subaru?
