is the WRX a hassle/trouble free car? is it reliable?

hey everyone, been around these boards..just browsing for a long long time, and the time for me to get a car is near..well not too near but been thiinking and still am for a wihle. ok, so i have a question, is the wrx trouble free..or do you constantly have to bring it in to get fixed? i know it depends on the driver, but im asking if you drove it like a granny, and shifting at like 2k and just babying the car, and not driving hard at all, giving the oil changes and other fluid changes at exactly the certain amount of miles, are you going to have trouble with it? ive been reading a LOT about transmission trouble..like the transmission is weak, but i just wonder if the people just arent driving it right and they are abusing it a little, i understand the wrx IS a spirited driving car. i just want to know if the wrx will be the right car for me. any other techinical problems where you have to bring it in and get it fixed and costing you a lot of $$? thats relaly my main questoin. i hope some experienced drivers outt ehre can help me out. thanks a lot. and i know the wrx has been out for less than what is it...not that long im sure, how are they holding up? do these cars last? and ..i really just odnt want to pay hella to get it fixed all the time!

Mine has been great. Very reliable and easy to maintain. All of my friends have had the same experience.

it's not that bad. the reason you read about a lot of the bad things is because people don't post when their car is running fine. kinda gives the car a bad image, but that's just how things work out on the 'net. i've got 37,000 trouble free miles and i've worn out 2 sets of tires, upgraded the turbo, and a bunch of other things.

Your car, or any car would be great if you keep it stock. This car would last you a good 200,000 miles if you take care of it properly. But, the minute you start to mod the car, is the minute you start to delete the cars life. Engineers dont design the car to be modded. Therefore, if your car is stock and you take care of it properly it will last you forever. If you start to mod it, then take care of it even harder than you would take care of it if it was stock. But, do your research, wrx are known for there bad trannys

trannies only go bad with launching, dont worry about it unless you're popping the clutch. to answer your questions in the subject..yes and yes! my dads legacy has 55k and runs great except for very very few minor things(cupholders, squeaky sound from steering, ...cant think of anymore problems lol)

97% of all subarus sold in the past 10 years are still on the road. That says something

Most of the issues of trannys usually deal with the manual trannys. The automatics at least have the least problems. Many people are calling the 4EAT (subaru wrx automatic tranmission) "bulletproof". Im pretty happy with my auto.

No probs with mine now, 32k miles and running strong as ever! I bought my WRX brand new in August of 2001... and with the exception of the cold clutch judder, everything is good to go.

No problems here just some problems with it when I started modding but that's just because I did the stuff my self so I had to fix my mistakes, but the car is very very very very reliable, and easy to work on. You won't have to worry about a thing.

My WRX only has 3500 miles on it, but in highscool one of the cars I drove was a loyale wagon. Was a underpowered car (!) but was extremely reliable. My parents kept it as a "hauling stuff" wagon after I left (they both drive sedans) and had 0 problems with anything for the 6 years we had it.

Thumbs up

My has seen about 60,000kms covering evrything from long summer drives, long winter drives, winter navigational rallies (temp -30C), auto-x, lapping at a track, driving on smooth tarmac to forest back roads and the car has been perfect. Mind you, I have changed out the major fluids to synthetic, but other than no problems.

Oh, my car is modded, but I choose components that engineers designed for the car.

My 02 with 50k has been a great car. The only problem Ive had is with a fuel line leaking in extremely cold weather which was fixed under warranty. I dont baby mine by any means but I dont go dumping the clutch all of the time either. I would think the tranny problems you are hearing about are cars that have been abused. I would think you could trash any cars tranny if you dumped the clutch a lot and ran the **** out of it. Like I said Im at 50k, Im just now needing brake pads and aside from that the only money I have had to spend on the car has been to mod it, gas it up and do general maintainence. It can be an expensive car to have because you might just want to keep pumping $ into it on modifications. Buy one and you will never regret it unless you abuse it. Whats up with your user name? Do you have one or are you like me and everyone else that drool every time you see one.
