Warranty being denied???

Hey everyone! First time posting.
I have about 8k miles left on my warranty.
The dealer checked with the warranty issuer, and told me the leaky strut in the rear of my 02 Imp. 2.5 rs isn't covered. They insist the shock in the back are not strut, and therefore assistance from them is not required. They do on the other hand, cover strut.

Come again? Unless I'm misunderstanding something, that reasoning makes absolutely no sense. If you can, take it to different dealer.

Your car has struts front and rear. They are BSing you.
However, the 3/36 warranty has already run out if you have an 02, so it wouldn't be covered unless you had an extended warranty.

Maybe he bought the car used with an aftermarket warranty? Or, maybe the denial was because of the 3 years - rather than it being a strut.

Yeah contact subaru directly or another dealership. SOA seems to be pretty good about resolving issues.I'd Check with another dealership first though.

Well in that case, since the struts are definitely between the bumpers, they should be covered.

Thanks, all.
I'll call SOA monday and let you know.
In the event that I may not get assistance, I've looked at the Tire rack for replacements. The KYB GR2 strut cartridge seems to get good reveiws. The questio is, should I leave the springs, or invest in the Eibach Pro-Kit Spring. I realize this isn't the proper forum to ask, but I thought I'd save you a trip ( ;
Thanks in advance for your help.

It depends on what you want out of the car. If you are happy with it as is you can keep the stock setup. Springs will lower the car and give a firmer ride with better handling, at the expense of suspension travel and compliance. You have to decide what your priorities are. Personally I've kept my suspension stock other than wheels and tires (stayed with 16" though), since I only drive on the street, no track or auto-x, and with the bad roads here in NY and vicinity the last thing I need is a stiffer suspension.
Also in the event your warranty does fall through, strut replacement is not that difficult as a DIY if you are so inclined.

Smile

I still remeber the light feel and response I had from the stock handling on my rs when she was new. I want that back ( :
The price for replacent spring/strut is better than dealer cost IMO, and I've gone almost 100k mi. I orderd the OE Brembo rotor (front/back) and Satisfied OE pads.
I do enjoy complience from my ride. Don't really mind stffer, as long as the contact patch maintains its track.
BTW, Mulder... T/Y fro the quick tips

I have GR-2s nice piece at a nice price, especially from Tire Rack. They're technically not for lowering, but since the Pro-Kit isn't too drastic you would probably be fine, although I wouldn't go any lower.

While I'm a firm believer that "one can achieve endless goals... "if so inclined"
Time is essential. If I saw an how too sheet, then detrmine the time neede, I might set some aside. Could be a fun project, and a nise badge of achievent to wear afterwards. Plus it would make the wifey proud of the fact that I saved her $$$ ( :

Just FYI Everyone,

Struts, clutch, tires and things like that are not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty since those are things that wear due to driver driving habits. I just bought an 06 WRX and that was the first thing the dealer told me that are not covered under any warranty.

I had two struts replaced under warranty on my 05 STi. You just have to go to a dealer that is willing to help you out. They did the first one no questions asked. Diablo Mazda/Subaru in walnut creek.

Struts are not a wear item. Struts and clutch are covered, provided that they wear at an unreasonable rate (read: defective). The dealer just doesn't want to cover the stuff they're obligated to cover.
