If you plan on keeping your car for that long, and intend on keeping it stock and not modding it, then absolutely it's worth it. If you plan on modding it, though, I would stay away from it considering it's a possibility that Subaru wouldn't honor it anyway.

Statistically, the answer is no, warranties are not worth buying. If the total warranties paid out more than they cost, the dealers wouldn't offer them. But for peace of mind it can be a good idea - particularly if you don't want the risk of getting landed with a large bill. Extended warranties can also be useful if the vehicle is pre-owned, because you don't know how it has been maintained by the previous owner.
What made me not bother is that, since powertain is already 60k miles, the $550 option really only buys you 14,000 miles of extra full coverage. The $1070 option just seemed too expensive.
Another problem for me is that I auto-x, so any longer term faults could, quite reasonably, be put down to wear and tear.

I too have been considering this warranty. A friend of mine put it like this. If you buy the warranty, then
you can guarantee that nothing will go wrong with you car That being said I have not heard many
stories of people who bought it and what they thought of it.

Forester In Bend
I just bought a 2006 Forester & don't understand the benefits of an extended warranty prior to the first 36,000 miles. It does seem to reason that SOA would try to sell an extended warranty after their 36000 one had expired. In talking to the finance people at Subaru their sales pitch is that if you wait until the 36,000 expires any extended warranty will be MUCH more expensive but for the first 3yrs your paying twice for the coverage?? The quotes given you for additional coverage AFTER the36,000 didn't seem all that expensive. Would be interested in what you decide & why.
