Look for financing first, as the knowledgable people have already wisely advised. If the dealer can beat that with their own financing, then so much the better.

When I was testing the waters earlier this year, I got online price quotes on specific '04 STis from in-stock inventory at three dealerships. None were over $31.5k but the northern CA favorite dealership Subaru of Santa Cruz had the one I was looking for a quote of $29.5 (excluding tax and license). Unfortunately, due to other circumstances, I wasn't able to take advantage of this deal. You might consider doing business with Subaru of Santa Cruz - it's the crowd favorite in the Bay Area (BAIC).

EDIT: You might also contact the guys local in your area, SECCS.org, and see what sort of deals they found. Among them are some STi owners.

I know, and it'll be hard to get as good of a deal on the '05s until the supply has caught up with the pre-orders.
