I'm not a car expert but heres my opinion.
Today i took my friend out driving (he drives a type-s). i just recently broke in my car and he wanted to see what i was made of . i launched and took off and while i was coming to a hault, these are the exact words that came from his mouth. "Damn this **** is fast. so much damn tq. i don't no if i can hang with you." made me feel so special. LOL.
I took a drive in his car after because its a fun car to drive. the clutch and shifter are much easier to depress and shift. feels like a video game shifter as someone put it. much easier to change gears and has smoother/easier shifts. its bad *** once you hit v-tec and the interior is more refurbished obviously with the guages, seats, and other stuff.
In my conclusion, they are both sweet cars, but from different worlds. AWD to FWD, leather to cloth, i say drive both before you make a decision. let whatever will be best for your surroundings and for your convinence make your decision. not what others say.

Of course I'm going to tell you to get a WRX although I have driven a RSX Type S. The RSX is a nice car but I didn't think there was anything special about it. It's just a simple FWD, quick, little hatch. The WRX however is a pratical 4 door with AWD and that has that something special, turbo. I also like the fact that people are always asking about my WRX because there are not very many around(at least where I live), whereas, you see RSXs all the time.
Don't get me wrong, I come from the Honda family. Before I got my WRX, I had owned 5 Hondas which may be the reason I went to Subaru. Just ready for a change.
If I were you, I would get a Integra Type R before a RSX. It is by far the best handling FWD car on the planet. You will rule the autocross in it if you are a decent driver. Sure the ITR is loud as hell and doesn't have options like cruise or a sunroof or sound deadening for that matter but you can always add that type of stuff yourself if it's that big a deal. Plus You get to own a car that will most likely be a collectors item in the future. Oh, and you will be the envy of all your neighborhood ricers.

I own a 96' Integra which is just your basic little economy car. Its great fun to drive but I have a couple of issues with it. I dont like the fact that its a small two door. You would think that since you sit in the front its not a big deal to you but if you put an average size person in the back you have to move your seat up and contend with the knees in your back and torque is low on those cars so each person makes a big difference. Also i like to go snow boarding and taking my integra up there doesnt allow me to have much flexibility with space and if you just want to have fun in the snow. My point is this, the RSX is a nice car and its comprable to the integra in terms of space, seating, etc. The WRX is a 4dr awd car that has more everyday practicality in my mind just due to the versatility. You know what your daily drives are like and what you prefer from a car. Base your decision on which car suits your overall needs better. Hope this helps!--Todd--

oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO.....oversteer......AHHHHHHH....
beauty of AWD
ooooouuuuccccchhhhh......understeer......i think i just smashed a tree.....
P.S. = I have seen some crazy integs and old CRX's that handle like nobody elses business. Although, i don't know how RSX- type s 's handle...I do know i have mashed on one on Hwy 1...i would say go WRX, So much more potential (its turbo) and the RSX is not turbo and u can get a turbo for your RSX but is it still covered by warranty?...nope...But if you get a rex i garrantee that it will not be stock for long...you'll get bitten by the bug and before you know it you will have a drop in filter and your resonator will be gone...and a few weeks later...hell you might even have suspension, ECU tuning and some rims...
what ever you get, just have fun w/ it....

I have owned both cars, type-s for around 6 months, and my WRX for about 4 now.
Interior: Type-s is a bit better than the WRX, nicer materials, leather(although I don't care too much about this-cold in the winter, cloth holds better in the twisties), shifter is amazing. I installed a short shifter on mine and all it required was a flick of the wrist to shift gears, while the WRX seems like a truck shifter at first. I have installed a shirtshifter on this car also but it still does not compare to the type-s (and the type-s had 6 gears. ) The rear seat is almost laughable in the type-s, but we don't have to sit there so it doesn't matter too much. The hatch allows about a 5'-6" person to sit withougt too much trouble but anyone bigger has to put their head either in the rear window well or lean forward. With the rear seats folded down it does offer more trunk space that the WRX though. And the RSX had 3 cupholder, compared to 1.
Exterior: RSX-2 doors, WRX-4 doors. obviuosly. Many people have complained about how thin the paint is on the WRX but the RSX is either the same or even a bit thinner. My RSX had so many little chips on the hood that I couldn't even count, whereas my WRX has none so far. Granted the RSX has a lower hood more prone to getting hit by rocks. I think I still like the styling of the RSX more but the WRX is more fun to drive.
Engine: Everyone knows the specs of the two cars so I won't bother with that. iVTEC is certainly fun in the RSX, but it takes 5800 rpms to get there, with a CAI though that car was mean sounding, onramps were certainly fun to hit iVTEC on. Torgue really isn't there in the RSX, although with the stock tires you can pretty easily chirp the tires up to 3rd gear. FWD helps a lot with this also. The RSX shows some great gains with bolt-ons like exhaust, headers, intake, reflash, but after that you're pretty limited. Cams works well but you have to do quite a bit of tuning, there are also many great companies now with turbo and supercharger kits, but that can get pricey. The WRX obviously has more potential to start with because it already has the turbo, and freeing up the exhaust offers a crapload of more horsepower to play with.
Suspension: AWD>FWD. Can't really argue that too much. The RSX certainly has great handling from the factory and springs and sway bars really help to tighten it up even more. Same goes for the WRX. I never got to take my RSX to a track, and am waiting until the spring to take the WRX, so I'll let someone else talk more about that. I will say that the RSX was one of the worst cars I have owned in the winter. My Explorer was better than it and I never even put it into 4 wheel drive. This may or may not be a factor to you, depends on what type of roads you drive on. I live in the country on back roads that are infrequently plowed or salted so it matters a lot to me. My RSX found out the hard way when it found itself face to face with a telephone pole. The RSX certianly is built tough though, after rolling it and hitting the pole I walked out with only minor cuts from glass. Hopefully I never have to test how safe the WRX is, although it certainly is.
Hope this helps out a bit, from an owner's experience. It still comes down tho personal preference though. Drive both cars and pick whichever you like. You'll enjoy either I'm sure.

Everyone has an idea of what is better, my suggestion is the way the car makes you feel after your finished driving it is the way you will remember it, later. Looks are ok, feel is great, but the after glow is what memories are made of. )
I thought I would mention that even though I have driven a wide variety of cars in my life I still like knowing how each car performed and handled. The good the bad and the ugly!
1983 Honda Civic S (black) only mod = 205/60/13 and intake.
1985 Merkur XR4Ti (red) only mod = lowered 1 1/2inches
1979 Saab 900 Turbo (Blue) only mod = Removed excess weight
1988 Mazda 323 GTX (red) mod = Intake, exhaust, turbo
I have since subdued my passion of sport cars and drive an SUV due to the rutted driveway I live on, no car could handle it. I am moving next year and need to quench my thirst for AWD drifting.
AWD Power Slides once accomplished, are addicting!
