The Reliability of a 02 WRX w/Miles
thinking of picking up this 02 wrx. It's a mainland car so it has some miles. My biggest dilema is hondas are easy to fix no matter what the miles and they arn't expensive, but if I am gona spend 14k or any high # of dollars on a car I want it to be reliable.
It has 79,000 and has a bunch of upgrades such as a vf34 turbo, utec, up pipe, downpipe, exhaust and much more. How long do these subaru motors last? Is it worth picking up?
I need some opinions.

The drivetrain isnt crappy, "its the driver behind the wheel", a lot of people tend to drive out the subarus if they were 2WD vehicles, constant launching and speed shifting...
-hmm, im sure he wouldnt be selling a car that has noticeable damage/noise coming from the car during a test drive...but it wont be easy to know what condition the car might be in even tho it drives alright at first you know

what about having a mechanic check it out? Actually wait LoL well I have a friend here who works at BMW who's a top notch mechanic but I just remembered the car was on another island. I guess I might just have to pass up that car maybe.

I have an 02 wagon that has some of the same mods done as the rex you are looking at. I bought it with about 85k and now at 96k the only problem I had was the clutch, I have a crazy feeling it was from me learning to drive stick with it, but who knows.

I would suggest against you buying such a heavily modified car, especially one that has an upgraded turbo. The owner may inadvertantly damage the car even if he "babies" it. I have an 02 WRX with some mods and it is still going strong, I just wouldn't recommend a modded car (no matter what brand) unless you know exactly what you are getting into.
