I think that would be one of the very FEW advantages to owning a 2.5TS instead of a wrx its easy to get to the oil filter.

Mine is an '04. When I took it off the first time, I dremelled out the area I needed to allow me to leave the pan in when changing the oil.

hmm...odd. the 02/03s have the crap skidplate but i'm guessing it doesn't reach as far back as the 04s. on my 02, there is just enough room to reach up in there and change the oil filter and the "skid plate" doesn't cover the oil pan at all. i'll have to crawl underneath one and take a look.

Yeah the 04 one has enough room to get to the drain plug but not the filter.

its so simple and cost-effective to do it yourself...doesnt take much at all...jack up car, drain oil which isnt that hard, and for 02-03 you dont really need to remove the skid plate, just unscrew the oil filter until it starts leaking and it will drain right past the skid plate...take it off, clean and put new filter in, drop car...add oil and baamm all done, less then 30min...

All good advice , letting the oil drain all afternoon may not be such a good Idea but that could be debated .
The most important thing is to go to the service department and buy a bunch of those crush washers for the drain plug , do not overlook this detail and do not try to use it again ,
they are $1.14 cents plus tax here in SR , but worth not having the drip

If you use the stock filters, the washer actually comes with them.
