is it normal for my car to eat oil?

just did my 3rd oil change today. every oil change was at about 3k and noticed that about 4 qts came back out. i know i didnt leak because there is no oil stains in the garage. so is it normal to lose about 1qt of oil every oil change?? i drive a 2006 wrx if that matters.

yep. I ran the first 60K miles (3K mile intervals) on my WRX running standard oil since the dealer changed it free for the first 60K miles(Santa Cruz).
Then I switched to sythetic and change it at about 3K-4K mile intervals. So far 68K miles and I have always have to add that 1/2 to 8/10ths of a quart half way through.

Get an oil catch can so you can see what blow by oil goes in to the intercooler.

Don't forget, you lose some oil in the filter as well.

My '02 uses a little bit, but only a few mm. on the disptick.

I think it also depends on your driving style. If I drive slow and conservative, it wont consume oil, however if I drive hard (which I normally do) it will consume oil. I add a quart every 1000-1500 miles (redline 5w30). I also have lots of short trips/stop and go.

Subaru's allowable oil consumption is up to 1,000 miles/quart.

I think it depends more on the break in and a little luck. Pleanty of turbo cars use oil when driven in a normal, daily driver type of way...but they will drink more oil if driven hard.

Mine's never used any oil, and sees redline frequently.
